Hi everyone. I just joined and this is my first post. I am 50 and was diagnosed with me when I was about 26. I have been lucky as far as this disease goes. I am on aubagio. Prior to taking it I had noticed recall and short term memory issues. has anyone found ANYTHING that helps? Thanks.

Welcome to our group of crazy 😜 MS community 👍 This is a great place to vent and find out lots of good information from people who understand and care 🙏 I have been on Aubagio for over a year now and doing well with no new lesions and old ones stable 👍 I know there are several exercises to help with short term memory, but not sure of any medication 🤷🏼‍♂️ I was diagnosed twenty three years ago and have been on seven DMT as my MS progressed. (RRMS) Feel free to share your experience and questions 👌🙏🐾🐩 Ken

Aricept helps me with brain fog. Not perfect but better than without it. I feel like I process better.

I think memory issues are the worst issue for me! I write EVERYTHING down in a little notebook. At work when I help someone in the office, I've trained them to tell me the 1st thing they need and I write it down, then they tell me the 2nd, etc. Pain in the butt!

Sometimes it's scary, too. We were coming home from a trip to IKEA last Sat. and I saw a highway marker to a place that I knew I should know and was drawing a blank. It took probably 15 minutes to realize where that town was and that I'd driven through it countless times! I didn't tell my husband, or worse yet, ask him where it was. He would have been as freaked out as I felt!

Hate it...

I understand exactly where you're coming from. I have a notebook upstairs and downstairs in my house. Writing things down is imperative to stay organized.

I sometimes try the notebook thing...then can’t find the notebook. Or I have notebooks going and don’t remember which one I wrote in. Keeps life interesting!

I have, more than once, found the name and phone number to someone I have NO idea who they are in mine...

Drnikki, have you had any luck since you first posted this?

Memory and other cognitive functions are my biggest issue. It seems to get worse when I’m stressed, too. I have tried cognitive retraining off and on for three years—mostly, it’s working on strategies and plans for being more organized—with very limited success.

I’ve tried a few different meds for ADHD but I don’t find that it helps. While they may help with focus (not positive that they did) I still have trouble figuring out how to execute a plan.

I just saw a new neuro NP a couple weeks ago and she said for that cognitive issues there isn’t much they can do. I think she meant that unlike spasticity, for example, there isn’t a pill or set of exercises that will offer improvement.

It really bites!

I agree. I am taking alpha lipoic acid. So far things are about the same and I am still working full time. There is little to nothing that can b done for cognitive issues. scares the he-- out of me...

I guess our best bet is to work on limiting further disease activity and hope our thinking skills don't get any worse. I have to remind myself that at least I'm fortunate in being fully mobile—I can't have it all!
