Are there meds currently available for gait issues for Progressive ms...will be starting ocrevus shortly for the gait issue..a bit nervous

I am unable to take even 1 step unless I'm holding onto a wall, a table, a stove etc...I use a walker when I leave the house...which is not very often...I'm so looking forward to the ocrevus therapy..,hopefully it will be the holy grail...anyone have positive results to ocrevus

I am in a wheelchair at work, walker when out and try to use nothing at home. My doc desperately wants me to try ampyra for gait. Expensive and it's a pill everyday to combat symptoms but getting closer to trying it.

Hi @ylimem! My neuro is having me try Amprya for something other than gait so he gave me a prescription to have it filled at a compounding pharmacy. It will be considerably less a month that way. I'm open to doing this because my insurance isn't likely to approve it since its not for gait and I can afford the one month at the compounding pharmacy to give it a try. You might want to consider talking to your neuro about going this route. Oh...the hoops we have to jump through to get treatment sometimes!

I’d be interested to know what your neurologist has to say about your gait. Do you have issues with balance or is it more with the speed of your gait?

Good morning geoghegan, it's Fancy1959. Talk to your neurologist about your gait issues. Oftentimes, the best medicine you can take for your gait issues is physical therapy . Sometimes due to our balance issues or fear of falling we alter our gait so drastically yet, we don't notice it. But it's the physical therapist job to notice it and work on repairing and fixing our gait. There is drug that supposedly helps with your gait but I reacted funny to it and I stopped taking. I think it's called Ampyra.

Hanging onto your walls indoors is not a very good or safe solution to your gait issues. If you have to do that, please invest in a secondary indoor Walker. A Rollator Works fantastic indoors and makes you very mobile indoors. I found mine at an indoor flea market for $50 and it works great. It's a very nice rollator, one that would have cost me well over $125 if I had to buy it from a health care website or store.

And finally you inquired about the Ocrevus therapy. To gain information about insights from individuals who share comments and reactions to, and results from taking Ocrevus please see my post about "Taking an Ocrevus Poll." I would encourage you to follow this post along. I plan to update it twice a year so we can follow each other's results and hopefully improvements we see from the ocrevus therapy. From the research I have read on the therapy the best results are started to be seen somewhere after the 1and 1/2 to 2 1/2 years into the therapy. So please follow up and let us know how you handle your first infusion and what type of reactions you see from it, both positive and negative. Remember together we are stronger! Hello, I just reviewed all of my medical records going back to 2015 and the findings of 4 neuro. are the same...after reviewing 7 mri spine & brain...demyelinating disease...I since then have chose one neuro to be my provider...I have faith in him & he is the one who suggested I go on ocrevus...waiting for my consult with the infusion center and then to book the appointment for the infusion...could it be the holy grail!!!!!!!

I am also waiting for blood work and will most likely be going on ocrevus too.

It’s very scary but I have to do something as my new lesions are active.
