Hello. I’ve been experiencing tight pain around my chest to my Back. I always thoiught it had something to do with quitting smoking because it always corresponded to that. I haven’t smoked in months and it’s been happening the last few days. Last for hours goes away then comes back. Not sure if this is what’s called the ms hug or not

Smartcloud1981 I don't know about the MS hug.😕 I was asking someone about yesterday.😊 and trying to find info. She said tell Neuro. 😐

I say I will wait.😊 I'm stubborn, and have a PCP appt on tue.😄

Mine tightens like a bear hug? I feel like I have to concentrate on my breathing. I do not like it.😒 Only happened twice tho.

Sounds like an MS hug. Neurontin helps. I had it really bad about 10 years ago and got so scared. I couldn’t breathe. Ended up with prednisone and extra neurontin. I still start getting them when I get too hot. Hope you feel better soon.

How long have you had MS I use to get those. All the time when I was diagnosed them I started taking Oxycarbazine I think that's the right spelling, it took a while to figure out the dosage I now take 2 pills two times a day at 300mg each. I would ask your neologist Good luck

ssdw1958 I have been taking oxcarbazepine (brand name is Trileptal) For nerve pain. I tried to stop it and couldn’t because I realized it was also controlling my MS hug symptoms too!! I get by usually at 150mg at morning and night. Smartcloud1981 i would ask your dr for a prescription.

Oh I think we are taking the same drug! I was suggesting the original poster look into getting a prescription for it too.

We are taking the same drug. I was taking the original med then my insurance changed it.

Smartcloud1981, it's Fancy1959. Remember each and every person's Ms follows a slightly different path full of slightly different symptoms. What you have described sounds like the MS hug but make sure you keep track or keep a log of the severity of the pain, how often it hits, and how long it lasts and take it to your next neurologist appointment. If it gets too severe call the neurologist and try to get in quickly. We are not doctors on this site so we can only give you suggestions of what has work for us. Please follow up with your doctor and let us know your outcome.

Remember we are only a post away and we are here to offer advice and suggestions anytime you need us. Together we are stronger! Until we speak again please take care.

Before I was diagnosed yet I was diagnosed with MS I really thought I broke something so I went and had x-rays guess what they found nothing but after I was diagnosed we knew what it was MS

I don't know your age or health history, but it's probably a really good idea to have it checked out. Though it sounds like MS hug, it's always smart to rule out any heart/lung issue, since those can be so vague, too.

I hope you feel better quickly. Congratulations on quitting smoking! Hurrah for you!

Thank you. Comes and goes. Last they checked lungs and heart are ok. I’ll keep tabs on it and if it gets worse I’ll call neurologist to get in before my next appointment

I hope it just goes away, but let us know what your neurologist has to say. So many of us have dealt with that nasty hug, so we can empathize.
