CHASING THE AURORA BOREALIS...AGAIN

Hi, everyone. Those of you who have been on this site for awhile know that my hubby and I went to Iceland last year before Christmas to seek the elusive Aurora Borealis, and of course got ripped because it was rainy and cloudy the whole time and the Aurora never appeared, although we did enjoy Iceland. Well, this year we are going on New Year's Eve to Fairbanks, Alaska to try again! It's actually 90 degrees colder there than it is here in Northern Arizona! So we got longjohns, down coats and very heavy sweaters and vests and snow pants. We already have wool hats and mittens and scarves and thick socks! We are going to rent a car and try to find them on our own, with the exception of a tour to the Arctic tundra in the Arctic Circle, so we get to chase the lights up there! There are apparently many places outside of Fairbanks' city lights to see them, but they don't appear until usually the middle of the night (so says all of my research) so we are trying to get nocturnal in preparation. We fly from Phoenix to Seattle, and Fairbanks is a 9 hour flight from Seattle! Worse than going to Europe! Hubby isn't happy about it, but it is on both of our bucket lists, and I have a good feeling about it this time. Just in case, if we come home empty-handed this time, it's the Finnish Laplands in 2018!

How exciting! Good luck!!!I ran into it unexpectedly in Nevada. I never thought I would ever see one so it didn't register AT ALL.I thought it was a fire at first. Then I thought it was a UFO. Lol.

Sukie427 wow, hopefully a trip of a life time. I would love to see it again. I saw it when I lived in Canada. I keep asking my hubby to take me to Iceland, it's only 3.5 hour fight from here, I even brought a broucher home from the travel agent, but he is scared what the cold will do to my ms. Anyways have a lovely Christmas season and a fabulous new year. Photos please. Blessings and hugs Jimeka 🎄 ❄️

I was lucky to see the Aurora Borealis one time when on a company plane flying back from Minneapolis to Seattle. We got to see them the entire flight. It was an amazing sight that Inwill never forget.

I hope you get to see the lights this time! They are truly amazing and beautiful to see! And if you get the mega colors, your in for a show! If you get a chance to check out the North Pole, Santa 🎅 Clause house! It's in North Pole Ak. About an half hr or so out side of Fairbanks.😊😄😀

Oh, my goodness, Sukie427 ! What a trip of a lifetime. Hoping Mother Nature plays along this time and allows you to see this beautiful site! It's on my bucket list, as well, but for now, I'll live vicariously through your adventures. Godspeed and blessings.
