My neurologist prescribed trazodone (off label). Started with 50 mg which only worked 1/2 the time. Recently increased it to 100 mg & I have slept thru the entire night for 3 weeks straight! Thank God - finally!🙏 Not even waking up during my nightly fevers or to use the bathroom - AT ALL!! I do wake up in a HUGE pool of drool on my pillow - I can handle that:) it has some carry over effect which helps my anxiety during day.👍

I've been on trazadone for years as well. It's a very mild antidepressant and it helps you sleep with no icky feeling in the morning. It is not something you can get addicted to, either.

Oh sweet. That does sound good.

My man thinks i am addicted to the ambien. I keep telling him i am addicted to the SLEEP. I feel so good after a good nights sleep.

Midgey_Midge06 My neuro wouldn't prescribe sleep meds to me when I told him I had a hard time sleeping some nights so he told me to take melatonin, no electronics in bedroom, darkening blinds. Melatonin worked at first but then stopped. Eventually talked to my family dr and he prescribed a sleeping med that I take. Usually need it 1 or 2 nights a week at most.

Hope this helps,

Jessie

Hi, Last year I was awake all night and sleeping only early morning. Then I search for products, not prescription to help me to sleep. First, if you drink alcohol, its put you down only maximum 4-6 hours, I read about. After that is its make a disturb in the brain, wake you up. Second, melatonin does not work at the low dose for us MSers and needs to be a good brand, I use Natrol for years and works perfectly. I use the fast absorption, leaving under the tongue that goes directly to blood system without passing to the stomach, then I use also the long release of melatonin that works for at least 6 hours in tablets. I asked my Neurologist and he said that I could take 20 mg to max 30 mg to sleep. I take 15mg fast action and 12 mg long release, they work fine. Third ingredient natural: I use also L-Theanine which is natural, the same ingredient in the green tea, to relax, 200 mg or 100 mg, and sometimes lemon balm in tablets or in gel over the front head, together with lavender oil. When I need a back up if I am too much aggravated with other situations running in my personal life, I take Valerian, which does not leave any side effect and help to sleep and wake up relaxed, no anxiety, only the capsule has a strong smell. I use to take Unisom with doxylamine, I guess..... forgot the name, has 3 different components depends on which you choose. I did research about prescription pills and they interfere with the brain waves during the sleep, not letting the brain doing full "reset" of our brain "pc". And the last of all option if I wake up with too much thought running, I get an ice gel eye mask and put over my eyes and front head that calm down the overload activity helping to go back to sleep in less than 3 minutes. All of these options I have learned in medical journals, not only by myself. Conclusion: I use melatonin 20-30mg, L-Theanine, Lemon Balm with Lavender, Valerian if necessary and ice gel eye mask.

In the last 20 years i have used all that dif stuff. Essential oils, homeopathic remedies etc. after the vodka incident i stopped drinking all together. Made me so sick i cant stand the taste or the smell of any alcohol at all to this day. I have the tempurpedic bed and pillow - which are heaven on earth.

I have struggled with insomnia all my life. It wasnt until I started seeing a therapist when i was 28 that he told me i had insomnia. I had no idea. I did not ever want or have a desire to take any pills at all ever.

Now after 20 years i know what real sleep feels like - after my concussion that set off my MS - i want it more than anything. When i sleep - i actually wake up and have natural energy! I can walk on my treadmill for miles. Its amazing. And my reg doc took that away from me and i have been in a tail spin ever since

It so sucks 😒

Why o why would a doctor take away what helps you sleep. They have no inclination of what it's like, I don't get it but I hate it!

Melatonin only worked for me for the 1st few nights. Can you please explain to me how to respond correctly so others get notifications of my response? Thx:)

kris1973 If you want someone to know that you are responding to them, put @ then their name that comes up in the blue at the top of the message...mine would be @ bxrmom (no space).

My MS neuro is also a sleep specialist. He just took over my sleep therapy including my meds and c-pap. He increased the pressure on my c-pap and reduced my temazepam. Reduced tenazepam hoping to help with my morning balance. My ms symptoms especially walking are crazy tge first couple of hours after I get up. Increased pressure to help me sleep hoping to help fatigue. Seems crazy lowering meds and raising pressure when I can’t sleep well with higher dosage temazepam to begin with but he supposed to be the specialist. Lol.

Hopefully he knows the trick! While i was on O2 i took tenazepam. Did not help me even for a minute

Doubled51 in reply toMidgey_Midge06

I was taking 30 mg temazepam and 10 mg doxepin. Now he brought me down to 15 mg temazepam. But he also has me on 600 mg gabapentin dinner time and 900 mg at bedtime which seems to help.

Midgey_Midge06 , I would stay away from sleep meds. And alcohol. MS is already messing with your central nervous system. Why add substances that are known to affect your central nervous system?--That's just my take on it but I'm still here in spite of MS diagnosed 37 years ago. I've never taken any sleep med and hope I never have to.

Midgey_Midge06 from my PCP (lunesta) but I'm sure my neuro would if I asked

My neuro has never said no to me no matter what i ask for. He knows i do my research cuz he has taught me too since the beginning. I am just so anxious abot it. I know my anxiety is making it all worse. I cant wait for momday to get here and be over with.

I am also do a spa day before my appt so at least i have that to look forward to. I am thinking purple streaks in my hair cuz why not? My fiancé says no but i may do it anyway 😁😁😎😎

I've heard that there is a form of cannabis that helps one sleep. I forget which hybrid plant name. I haven't tried it, not accessible to my doctor yet, not sure why, but I believe it's legal in Ohio.

Do a little research? It's natural and I'm thinking no side effects.

There are also CBD oils that are thc free.

I've tried them for daytime. They calm me down and relive pain from spasticity in my back. I think there's one for sleeping time, haven't gotten it yet.

I take colonapan when I have trouble, but you build up tolerance to it

Thank you for the info. All that is illegal here in Texas and morally wrong to most Texans like my fiancé. He doesnt want me to take so many pills which is what started this whole nightmare.

Yes, I get rx for Trazodone. I’ve taking 25 mg instead of 50 works just fine!

I lost 3 years of medication history the last time we upgraded phones - which couldn’t be restored. If you ever sign up for something using a code - make sure to take the extra steps to finish the registration or poof - it’s gone.
