Neurogenic Hyperactive Bladder with MS . Has anyone ever been treated with Botox?

My bladder is driving me crazy on top of all my other symptoms. My urologist has suggested Botox injections. Has anyone ever had these? If so, did it help or did it make your your bladder unable to empty? Any advise?

Thanks.

Never tried it. I'm sure I have nuerogenic bladder but to afraid to add more prescriptions I'm already on 20 different meds and vitamins and wonder also if the treatment would contribute to bladder infections. Idk

Botox will make you unable to void. You will have to do self catheterization. I am not good at it, so that is why i skipped botox. Try level exercises.

I do Botox. I've had it 4 times so far. I know how you feel. You are concerned you will have to use a catheter. That was my concern too. My doctor didn't warn me of it because he knew I was concerned about it. Well I had my first treatment and I ended up having to use catheters. To tell you the truth, it isn't as bad as I thought. In fact it is helpful. I cath before I go out and I don't have to worry about were the closes bathroom is or wearing pads. Now I know it is different for women. Why don't you ask your doctor if they can show you how to use it ahead of time to see if that is something you can tolerate. If you do it plan on about every six months to have it done. If I had to start over and go through it again I would. It is better than the alternative.

Thanks, it’s a good idea to try catherizarization on myself first just in case I will need to. The thought of it is so unappealing. Knowing the truth is the best way to go.

I really appreciate your comment sense.

Take care.

Hi. I've been getting botox injections for several years. it's been so very helpful! It had reached the point that I couldn't go out. Self catheterizing has been such a worthwhile tradeoff. In my experience.

I never tried Botox but I self cathed for a couple of years. It wasn't bad at all. Actually quite a relief to easily empty my bladder. I used to keep a catheter in my bra when I was working. You do need to be careful about bladder infections.

Wishing you good luck. A bad bladder is such a big annoyance.

@esther57 I was sent to a Botox specialist neurologist for back spasms, neck pain, etc., etc., The nuero gave me a weird and painful muscle/nerve transduction (or something), and told me it wasn't a lack of muscle or nerve transmission. Sent to another pain clinic, and he wants to do trigger point injections in my shoulders and back. Waiting for insurance coverage. Botox injections are supposed to help nerves and muscle work better!

Update: I did have the Botox injection. What a GREAT RELIEF it has been. I’m not on any other medications for my bladder anymore. Going to urinate is as easy as it used to be. I’m in heaven! It’s worth a try if anyone is considering it. Thanks again for your support when I was trying to figure out what to do.

Hope this helps anyone else who might be in the same situation.
