Asparagus!

Look what I found peeking out of the straw, when I went out back to take a picture of my Quince bush for my cousin! I hope Sherman cooks them for supper tonight.

How exciting! I've read how hard it is to grow asparagus.

Oh my gosh no! You just put it in the ground and it grows. It will keep coming up for 20 to 50 years. Bugs have never bothered ours, nor anything else so far.

Thanks! I never knew this. I'll have to plant some.

My guy would love it! But what do you mean, just put it in the ground and it grows? I kill plants😑😞 the only reason my plants inside are still alive is because I found an awesome website. 😅😅 😁 It tells me step by step how to take care of them. 😁 Morllyn

They really aren't hard to grow. In the Spring, you have to check them every day because the shoots can grow up to 2 feet or more and the new ones are the best, the most tender. If you do not pick them each day those shoots will start branching out into the fronds that look like fern leaves. The are really pretty. You just snap the shoots off at the ground level. You can snap them off at any length, as you can see in my picture.

They usually don't make it to the house but there were a lot and my husband kept asking me if I saw any asparagus yet, every time that I went out to the compost pile. I couldn't not bring some in so we could share. He cooks them in a grill pan, just until they are slightly crisp, with olive oil drizzled over them, then pour just a little balsamic vinegar over it. Yum!

I had just checked them the day before and did not see any, then yesterday one of them was over 2 foot tall!

I know about the need to share, but it's soooooooooooo hard at first... LOL

Last Spring he would ask me to go check the asparagus to see if it was coming up yet. If there were only a couple I would snap them off and just eat them then tell him, nope. He would laugh and say, then what is that green between your teeth! Oops!
