We went to a party this eve for my husbands work I debated if it would be worthwhile and decided to bring my cane. There were 4 rescue dogs, 2 cats and a 2-year old boy on his new motorized car whizzing around the house. I was oh so very! Glad I had my cane. Since my husbands colleagues were new to me I thought it was interesting and delightful that no one stared or asked why.

Yes, you're so wise! Glad you have a good time with no uncomfortable stares or questions. You surely look very distinguished with your cane. Top hat?

Come to think of it, it was a Valentine's Day massacre party and many were dressed as gangsters from the '20s. Mark neglected to tell me it was a themed party. So we weren't dressed up. Maybe they thought my cane was a prop? 😂😂😂

I'm so happy you went and took your cane! Sounds like a house full of obstacles to watch out for. Boy were you smart bringing your cane!

I love greaterexp mentioning TOP HAT-hee hee, makes me think of Young Frankenstein (my favorite movie).

Get a cane that suits you and makes a statement about you. It will give you so much confidence. I have one that's covered in butterflies and my Grandson calls it ' Gravity' as he says that it keeps me up right and defies the law of gravity. Out of the mouth of babes! Glad you enjoyed the party, blessings Jimeka

Lol Jimeka ! My lightweight cane I used to use I christened 'Mick the Stick' , full name 'Mick Stagger'. This heavier one I have adopted since relapse is 'The Equilizer' ! Remember the series with Edward Woodward ? : )) x

erash, it's Fancy1959. i love Jimeka's advice and in fact have done the exact same thing. I ordered a hand caerved cane from the Ukraine. it's beautifull and ever timr i go out with it. people rant and rave about it. I figured if I had to use a cane I was going to use a cane in style. And of course it's got a card horse head on it stop and beautiful flowers curving around the whole straight part.

On a secondary note am I the only one who thinks it was a bit much to have three rescue dogs running around a party especially with someone using a cane? It's very lucky you didn't take a fall Erash. I hope the rescue dogs were well behaved for your benefit. I always take my cane and if I don't need it I can put it with my coat. Better safe then sorry.

Fancy1959 there were 4 rescue dogs and the German shepherd took a liking to me. Once I found his sweet spot behind his ears he tagged along with me. I loved it 💕 So looking forward to getting my pet in May (what I negotiated with my hubby who says after all the crises are resolved with our parents--that never happens 😉 So he agreed on May ).

The bigger obstacle was the 2 yr old and his toys strewn around the floor. I was sure he was going to pull a plate or glass off the table but his agile young grandmother chased around after him.

I've found that some people are very relaxed about kids and pets (not me I'm always worried) and they r probably better off.

Are you getting a dog? He/she will be a treasure and your best friend. It is so different having a pet when you are not working and home more. They really get to know your every mood. I think all dogs and maybe other animals can become service pets just by watching you and anticipating your needs.

We've also had several very loveable cats through the years. All pets are precious.

Since I've been laid up since my diagnosis, my great big Kitty has been my sidekick, lays by me and always snuggles when I take a nap. I love how he taps on my husband's on my hubby's cheek at 5:00am when he wants to go out in the morning. I've never been a dog person but have friends that absolutely love their dog companions and wouldn't have it any other way. A friend of mine breeds pure bred Golden Retrievers with Standard size poodle to make Golden Doodles, they are very popular and very smart. His wife has them house broken and obeying simple commands by 8 wks old. Hope you get the furbaby companion you want.,

Thanks! CalfeeChick

I've had cats, dogs, birds...my niece has a bearded dragon that sits on her little shoulder and seems to interact with her.

I've had fish but it's really hard to pet them 😂😂😂

OK erash you know me l gotta put my 2 cents in for the pets and you. ☺ You have to consider how long they live, all my cats lived to be 17 yrs. Old. Dogs the say 10- 13. Dogs are alot more work than a cat. You can leave a cat alone for a day or two.

Then the love you get💕 They both will sense what's going on with you. Just a cat gets calmer first 😅

Good luck 🌠

Lolol l just now saw this erash lm sooooo behind! And yes they are nocturnal. And that day, Nosy decided that he didn't want the treat, and made a break for it.... At 3am😑. And my dog tried to help catch him. It wasn't pretty 😅😅

Glad that you took your cane, erash. I had an Aunt that was too proud to use her cane or walker in public and missed out on so many things. In the end, she did not hurt anyone but herself. We are going to an event next weekend where I will put on my new black dress, black stockings, my squash blossom turquoise necklace and my cane.

Good for you SueAB

Sounds like you will be looking very chic for your event 💃

I'm not too proud to use or be seen with a cane. I'm just confused about when I will need it and how to use it when I'm be-bopping along just fine and either misstep or have to rapidly change direction and then have an off kilter moment.

Up until more recently, I've been able to right myself. Lately Gravity is winning. 😟
