I went to a meditation class Thursday. We were taught to choose a mantra that we could repeat to ourselves throuout the day to recreate the calm we felt in the class. Mine is, "I choose peace!" It's a reminder that I have free will to choose how I respond to things, good and bad. And I choose peace rather than not peace.
Of course, sometimes my immediate response is not peace but I'm practicing π

Erash, I was rereading The Power of Positive Thinking recently, which like your meditation class, reminded me that I can choose to be positive each day. There is always so much to be thankful for.
I'm thankful for finding this thread. Grateful for all of you and look forward to spending time with you each day.. I'm spending more time here than FB!
Erash, I love your post. I used to meditate and remember how helpful it was. I think you have inspired me to start again! Thank you. I get so many gifts from this site. Take care. Kelly
Erash was meditation suggested to you by your doctor? Along with the MS and many other great ailments, I battle deep depression. All of this started me to have symptoms of facial spasms and body and neck jerking. The doctor didn't seem to think this was a symptom of my MS but rather the stress and depression. I was referred to a movement specialist, who had me meet with a psychiatrist and psychologist. They both recommend meditation and yoga. So I'm curious to know if it has helped.π
Hi Judi4, not recommended by my doc. I've tried off and on to meditate.
By nature, I'm a stress ball and know I can benefit from meditation. This class is free at my local library and b/c of my current income, I'm pursuing a lot of free stuff π
Around 3 weeks ago, the stress of leaving my job led to facial spasms (contorted my face) that did not respond to an attempt to mediate (kind of hard to remain calm when every few seconds your face twists). Fortunately, I had some Valium handy and that did the trick. Valium is both for anxiety and is a muscle relaxant. And I have know clue whether MS contributed to this but the Valium helped, rapidly.
Regardless of what's causing your symptoms, I'm a big advocate of mindfulness and meditation. Consider books by Jon Kabat zin. Harvard researcher who connects healing with mindfulness.
Hi, erash ~ where I live, Central CA, our Senior Center offers various low cost or free classes that anyone can attend, so you may try that for meditation classes. I've taken Yoga and Tai Chi classes there as well.
Happy Thanksgiving and I'm grateful for the members of this site for their openness and knowledge!
Thank you erash. I know what you mean about your face. When I start having facial spasms I'm afraid people think I'm winking at them. My children say that it doesn't really look like I'm winking but that something is definitely going on with the left side of my face. I'll have to look into those books. The movement doctor thinks maybe some physical therapy would helpful. Anyway, thanks for your suggestion.π
Ok this sounds stupid but lm thankful all the cupboards are scrubbed and oiled. It's a long way down to the floor ugh and a longer way up when your legs don't want to work.
Monday-I am grateful for the Internet. It has brought me here to this group which brightens my day every day. It gives me opportunity to research our MS.it allows me to keep in touch with friends and family so even when I don't want to leave the house they are just a Internet connection away..
