New blood test to identify MS

New technology being developed, and set to be available USA 2017 that identifies MS RNA gene in peripheral blood and to be used along with MRI to diagnose MS (Neurology Times 11/6/16).

Interesting...perhaps means less time in limbo for those waiting for diagnosis confirmation.

Erash, every tool in our arsenal to diagnose MS quicker is a huge step in the right direction to help fight and beat this monster. I have always said that information is our friend. Armed with quicker, more accurate diagnoses will help our doctors and neurologist start treatment quicker which in turn will decrease their patients' disability levels.

Thank-you so much for sharing this wonderful information with us. You are indeed a font of information. I am grateful for your continual positive posts and inputs. You help to make this chat room the safe and positive place it is!

I'm hoping it can be used to test family members and find out if they could potentially develop MS before showing symptoms. Then we'd know to keep watch and get earlier treatments.

Erase, you are a wealth of knowledge! I'm grateful that you take the time to share here. Wow! That could be an incredible help! I worry some about my daughter who has IBS and migraines, like me but much more severely than I. Since those apparently can go hand in hand with MS, getting an early diagnosis could change things.

Stacy and greater exp, really interesting thoughts as I have wondered on occasion if some of the weird symptoms my niece and nephew have might be indicative of early MS. Agree early diagnosis would be fantastic!

Ugh why am l just seeing this post? I think the site is lagging behind some. This test would be amazing, not only to dx it, but if they get it down to a single gene... l figure they are that much closer to curing us. Just repair the gene right?

As I'm still waiting for the definitive DX, and have had 34 vials of blood drawn since July in addition to all other tests, I wonder what all tests they are running on my blood. Will get results next month.

CalfeeChick, Limbo :(

Most of the blood work is likely to rule out other causes for symptoms besides MS but perhaps they are running the new RNA test too? (although they legitimately need to inform you if they are using your blood for research purposes).

I did give UCSF permission to use blood and spinal fluid for research. Perhaps you're right about the RNA test..

Cool of you to give blood and CSFluid for research!

I pray you have answers soon.
