Hi,

My daughter (8) had infected eczema a few weeks ago and got antibiotics and creams. it cleared up. She is now getting other patches on her skin, starting small just a small scab then getting bigger, She has had one on her leg for a week now, its completely healed in the middle but seems to still be scaly and a bit red on the outside. Ive noticed a couple of other small scabs appearing on her today too. I have had a google and it looks like it could be discoid eczema? Does anyone have any experience of this and can recommend a cream or anything? I'm tempted to take her back to the doctors but obviously with everything going on i'd like to treat at home if possible. thanks in advance

G

Do you still have some of the creams she was given last week, not the antibiotics but the corticosteroids, they will still be ok to use as prescribed before, but to be on safe side, squeeze out about 1cm length and discard before use.

Thank you for replying. Yes I’ve got a little left I’ve been using called eumovate. Seems to help a little just not clearing completely

You could try using whats called 'weekend therapy', so emollient twice a day, eumovate once a day for two days, then step down to 1% hydrocortisone (without prescription from many pharmacies) once a day for 5 days, always emollient, and washing with soap substitute, or use emollient cream for washing as well.

hello gillyshark, sorry to hear about your daughter. i would say treat it now while you can and whilst theyre still small! i have discoid eczema and i was just using aveeno at home for it (whilst is aveeno is very good and the colloidal oatmeal is good) it wasnt helping to treat the eczema and the circular patch kept growing. i stillhave it and it expanding. i got to the point i really didnt like looking at it anymore an it was sooo red and itchy that i finally called my dr. they're closed because of covid but he gave me eumovate ointment. i was very strict at follwing the instructions thin layer on affected area twice a day, he also said to buy emollient too otc. the eumovate worked well until i finished it about 3 weeks ago. sadly my discoid hasnt gone and got worse since so i would say keep using the eumovate (and emollient) until the skin looks like its healing and gone down, then use hydrocortisone and emollient. eventually you can let it just be emollient use and then hopefully it will be gone by then. this is a long process and has taken months for me so if you act earlier you might see better results. i regret not going to see my dr when i first noticed the circular patches and the scabs but like everyone else i thought nothing of it. take care and also be patient, these things take time to go too :( :( my condolences as i am a regretful sufferer. i hope treatment works for her.
