Luvox: has anyone tried Luvox before? - My OCD Community
Luvox
my spouse started Fluvoxamine several weeks back. She is slowly increasing dose every 3 wks from 25mg and is currently at 75mg.
We have not seen much OCD symptoms improvements ( since low dose and not enough time). Maybe is a little calmer and has started to question some of her rituals (after doing them) Overall is also low energy/depressed (may just be where she is with her OCD…..avoiding most things)
She seems to get insomnia/intermittent sleep for around 2wks after dose increase.
Again every person responds differently to a med.
Best of luck in your journey.
I am currently on Luvox. I am taking 50mg in the morning and 25mg at night. It is not doing much good though. But like someone else had said, it works differently for everyone.
thank you for your input. I hope you find peace in all you do.
my spouse psychiatrist said she has found 100mg to start helping, with most of her patients at 200mg (with mood stabilizer) for benefit. She doesn’t go over 200mg and prefers to add additional med
also takes long time for benefits to kick in (10-12wks)
On Luvox review site…most people seem to report getting benefit at 200-300mg
Hope you see benefits soon!
Thank you! My Dr doesn't want to up the dose, BC I'm on a lot of other meds, and she doesn't want to keep adding to them. I also think it would be better if I were on a higher dose. I think I'll bring it up at my next appt. Maybe I can taper off another med and try a higher dose of the luvox.
Thank you for your help! You gave me something to think about! 😊
thanks I’m on 100 mg probably will increase. Glad to hear your spouse and I have room and time to get better.
I’m tapering off of Luvox right now. I was on it for about 10 weeks, and I had great hope that it would help, but it seemed to worsen the obsessions and intrusive thoughts. I also had other unpleasant side effects that didn’t go away. (It did help with my nightmares though, which was great.) I’ve read about people who’ve had a lot of success with the medication, so it’s worth a try to stick with it and see if you get results. Good luck!
do you mind sharing your dose?
Meds seem to be a hit n miss proposition. Hope the next one delivers benefits!
Hi,I have been on Luvox (200mg)for more than 7 years, The dosage was low at first. Doctors are hesitant to increase Luvox (my experience). I believe I am quite productive in life. But I am really challeging my beastly ocd! I am currently at 250mg. I have no trouble sleeping -keep busy with going to gym and gardening, etc. I have no other side effects...that I know of???! I think the Luvox (fluvoxamine) helps to reduce my anxiety. I still need to be courageous, consistant and persevere in fighting compulsions/rituals.
My 12 year old son started Fluvoxamine in August at 25 MG. We didn't see any benefit until he got to 100. But it was limited. At 150 we saw some Breakthrough in reduced anxiety, ability to battle the compulsions and some flexibility. Also only one tantrum all week. He's scheduled to increase 25 MG per week until 200 MG and then we'll reevaluate. Today he washed his hands in only 8 minutes after consciously changing his routine... down from over an hour only 2 weeks ago.
I am on 300 mg of Luvox and I think it has helped a lot. I don't really have any side effects, and I think I have improved a fair bit since I started taking it. However, I still am very anxious all the time, and struggle with mental checking. I am wondering about going up in dosage above 300mg. Has anyone here tried that?
Thanks for the information. I appreciate your help.
i take luvox, i'm on 300 mg. i didn't really see much of an improvement until I was over 200 or so. i was really hesitant since my earlier ssri experiences were riddled with side effects. however, my psychiatrist had me take a pharmacogenomic test to see if there were certain medications that I might respond better to, and luvox was one of them. you might want to ask your doctor about taking one of those tests if you don't see the luvox helping (it was just a mouth swab and my doctor got a list of ssris that my body might respond better to--i also learned I had a gene mutation that impacted how I process folic acid, so I was able to get on a supplement to help with that as well). the test was a couple hundred dollars, so that was kind of a bummer but I'm really thankful I opted for it and I was able to find a medication that worked.
I take 300 mg daily of Luvox and it has saved my life. I was previously on 100 mg daily and then had a huge relapse and was bumped up to 300 mg. The insomnia went away after about 2 months. If you have tried and it hasn't helped much, you may need a higher dose. I hope it helps
