"Mental health is not a constant. Mental health is almost like the gym, you have to work on it."
Something I am reminded of every time I think I've recovered to the point that I can just cruise on autopilot. It never lasts on its own; I have to stay vigilant.
Thanks for sharing this Shaun. It's a very brave thing to do, to go public about such a personal experience. Well done and thank you on behalf of all the people who will read that and recognise that they are not alone and are normal human beings who just suffer with a mental health issue. I used to think that there was something wrong or not right about me when I started having intrusive thoughts, but it was a revelation to find out there was a name for this, and that other people suffered with the same kind of thoughts too.
Thank you for sharing your experience with the BBC and with us in this community, as it will hopefully help a lot of people feel less alone! 👍
I read the article. Especially good: awareness about OCD being an equal-opportunity condition. My son is African-American, and his race actually made it more challenging to get permission for an awareness presentation at his school. Thanks for bringing up that topic.
I hope next time you'll try to slip in something about the IOCD foundation and ERP.
