A few years ago, I made a commitment to eliminating sugar, white flour and alcohol from my life and within months had lost nearly 40 pounds; I looked and felt great. This change in lifestyle and diet positively affected my mental health as well as my physical health. So, I think my results may relate to your question about meds working better when we lose weight. Excess weight is profoundly unhealthy and will affect the way we feel and the way our body metabolizes medication. With my improved mood and self-esteem I was able to go off my meds altogether. I still have OCD, but I'm better able to cope with the symptoms and do the ERP because, over all, I'm a much healthier and happier person without the extra body fat. Highly processed food and restaurant fast food negatively affects us in ways we can't imagine because these foods are addictive and toxic. Healthful fresh vegetables and fruits, grains, nuts and lean meats can work wonders for our mental health. I don't mean to jump on a soapbox here, but I truly believe that all of us could feel so much better and able to cope if we took this one really helpful step: get rid of the junk food!
