New approach for OCD thoughts

I just learnt a new approach of dealing with OCD thoughts.

When OCD thoughts occur of any type, do not focus on the content of it.

Observe the from far with the perspective that this is an OCD thought.

Of course, the uncertainty, danger of feared consequences will happen, but just sit with the anxiety, and do not react to the thoughts.

The OCD thoughts go in an imaginary OCD box.

The thoughts just keep gathering over there.

I am going to try to focus on this new approach in dealing with OCD thoughts, regardless, if it is in the form of a compulsion or obsession.

I will see how it works out with my symptoms.

I just wanted to share this with you all.

Hope it works and helps us.

I have been doing something very similar, and it has helped tremendously. The OCD thoughts are not my thoughts, they are OCD-influenced thoughts that are merely coming to my attention. It is my choice if I want to change what I am doing and pay attention to the thought. Is this thought helpful and relevant to what I want to be doing? If it is not helpful, then view the thought as a curiosity and ignore it.

This extra space between me and my thoughts is life-changing as I can choose a response and not just react.
