I was told that I need a mood stabilizer or an anti psychotic as SSRIs are not enough for ocd. I also have manic depression.
Every time I see a doctor they tell me that its a crap shoot when it comes to medicine. I think that this is totally unacceptable for the medical community to sluff off the fact that there is such a slight possibility for recovery from this disease that they hardly acknowledge it. Staying positive only goes so far until the pain from the constant repetition of counting repeating words placing things in order . I have taken SSRI's for 45 years and as far as I am concerned none of these medications are worth spending the money on, they don't work for me. I have never spoke with anyone who has had intrusive and repetitive thoughts all their life and has recovered from it. I have been in treatment for over 45 years and I am 58, do you see any hope for me ?
Oh gosh...the thought of never recovering from intrusive and repetitive thoughts is depressing. What is the sense in living? This makes me sad. No wonder there is a high rate of suicide for those with OCD,
I am sorry there is always hope. That's my OCD catastrophic thinking. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
I remember seeing news about using ketamine to treat OCD. There was an IOCDF award given to a researcher a few weeks ago for trials that involve using ketamine as a fast-acting option for treating OCD. I can't find that specific article right now, but here are a couple other places that talk about ketamine as a possible treatment option:

Don't give up. Are you seeing someone with therapy as well as taking meds?
Here's the recent article about ketamine that I was trying to find:
