Bloody eyesight

hello all

having Just spent a small fortune on new glasses ( equivalent to the governments handouts to their friends during Covid for PPE) I now find my eyesight is wonky whereas I could see fine a few months ago!

Does anyone else suffer from wonky eyesight which changes daily?

Alec

Hi

Oh yes, had new glasses couple months ago but found I’m struggling to see again! :(

I wouldn’t mind but as you say costs a fortune!

Thanks for your replies @fatwallet & Bizzyissy. I was starting to think I was going to be casting for the new Mr. Magoo movie!

Don't you just love MSA, its the disease that keeps on giving!

Roll on the Next symptom!!!!

Yes my husband, Phil is experiencing issues with his eyes again. We need to go and see the optician again.

I think wife, Denise, had intermittent problems with her eye sight but is very reticent to let me know. Not sure if it is embarrassment or that if she wishes it away it will go away!

I know this is not a lot of help, but I think just having a winge about ones situation to either other sufferers or carers of MSA who understands what you are going through does ease the mind.

All the best in this annoying journey we are going through

Hi Andrew,

whinge away mate as more and more I'm finding this forum a bloody great space to vent and sometimes rage against MSA.

Some days we, MSA lot look like there's bugger all wrong with us, early stages respectfully, and folks think we're making things up, in my experience with the general populous.

Agree, I wish all the best to everyone on here as unfortunately, we're all on this bloody journey together but, luckily at least we've got each other's backs on here.

Ha! I kept blaming the drugs as I’ve only just started noticing it. In a weird way reassuring to know others have this problem. It really does what it says on the label doesn’t it … atrophies multiple systems?! 🤓

Hey Gill,

My wife was aiming the blame at my single malt collection, how dare she as it makes life a tad more bearable!

My wife bought this medically endorsed eye test when we visited the distillers on The Isle of Islay. so please feel free to give it a shot. look closely and if the bottom lines are harder to read its one of the two reasons:

1. Yup, your MSA is buggering up your eyesight again!

2. Yup, you've overindulged on single malt whisky!

So, you see how accurate this medically endorsed eyesight test really is Gill?

I did contact the MSA trust with this breakthrough but I've never heard back from them?! 🤔😆

Yours

Alec

Eye Test For MSA

Best test and remedy I’ve heard for a while! Made me wonder if the tilting table test I did recently at the National was really tilting 😁I should have had a precautionary malt first!

I think a precautionary malt should be prescribed on our NHS! 😜

Thank you for posting this, husband who is newly diagnosed had issues with his eyes, he bought his new glasses 2 years ago and within a few weeks he couldn't see out of them. 18 months later gets an appointment for the hospital he has glaucoma, had laser treatment, which appears to have got rid of the glaucoma but done nothing for his eyesight. Your question now appears to have thrown new light on this matter for us.

MSA is a complete random and never fails to surprise me!

My husband (with MSA C) gets double vision. Where both eyes work perfectly but just not together. He was given a prism to stick inside one of his glasses lenses. I think it did help but he’s not too keen on it as it blurs one side, but perhaps yiu should try it and see how you get on with it.

I was also diagnosed last year. My eyesight has deteriorated massively. I don’t think the optician understands MSA so have requested referral via my GP. X

I think this will be most peoples experience on here, health care providers that don't understand MSA! It's frustrating although, what i find helpful is to downloads the pamphlet from the MSA website which explains MSA.
