Head support

Hi, my husband really struggles sitting on a dining chair for longer than about 15 to 20 minutes. That's fine when we 're at home or at friends, he can just excuse himself from the table and sit in a more comfortable chair with his head supported. It's the lack of support for his head that's the problem. If eating out anywhere you can easily wait 15 mins before food arrives, so not great for him, puts us off going out to eat. Thinking about designing some sort of portable head rest that straps to a chair, but perhaps there are some out there already? Can anyone suggest a solution? Thanks.

msatrust.org.uk/wp-content/... This may help.

It depends on the style of dining chair. Wedging cushions helps. But a strap will be too painful. The pull on the stiffening neck muscles will be too painful. We found using the wheel chair with its built in support at the table helped but to be honest just bringing in a comfy chair into the dining room helped. After a while family and friends understood the changing needs. Have a word with the OT team see if they have any advice. Regards Sharon xx

Thanks Sharon. I'm waiting for OT to get back to me, but in meantime I've managed to buy a second-hand chair with arms and very high back, designed for people with mobility issues. It's certainly helping with mealtimes at home. I'm pretty chuffed it's helping and it was a bargain on marketplace.
