Another thing to watch!

Hi All

Thought I would share an update on Sue for you all following my last post a few months ago.

As I stated Sue was sleeping a huge amount and we put it down to an infection and after steroids, it cleared up and she was back..... However, as we all know things don't stand still with MSA...

Sue started sleeping more and more again and was becoming uncommunicative. the temperature was normal and oxygen and pulse were within parameters. What was going on another infection. Then I had a call out the blue from the GP surgery, it was the diabetic nurse! Sue had become diabetic with a long sugar level (HbA1c) of near 57... ( normal is below 42). We went through Sues diet as she is peg fed and uses the Nutricia feed system, but she was enjoying fresh juices, trouble was about 1 litre or more a day. This was the cause of the raised sugar levels along with Sues immobility. We stopped the juice and Sue returned to normal within a week.

I now monitor her sugar levels using a blood tester every couple of days and her daily sugar level has gone from over 17 to 6.1 ( normal is 5.5 to 7.0)..

What I am trying to explain is that this condition and its changes to the sufferers life has direct impacts but also indirect changes to well being.

Always question what is going on as it may not be what you think, NEVER ASSUME

Keep safe all of you.

It is like being a detective with this disease

Thank you so much for bringing this to our attention. Interesting to note that this is a possibility. Dad has a lot of juices and puddings. If he starts presenting like Sue has there, I will bear in mind to get him tested. Kx
