throat procedure

Just curious if anyone has any information regarding a throat procedure our ENT is wanting to do on my husband. John gets laryngospasms, which I know is common with MSA-C. After seeing our ENT, they told us that one side of John's larynx is not coming together as it should and is wanting to inject botox thru his neck into the area beside his larynx to give it support. This sounds very scary to me and we are hesitant on doing it. Plus the fact that they tell us it will have to be repeated every so many months, at our expense, as insurance will not cover the botox. Our Neurologist who is very informed with MSA-C, said he trusts this Ear/Nose and Throat doctor and is recommending the procedure to prevent the laryngospasms. What are your thoughts or experience on this?

Hi, I have heard of Botox being used for MSA on the Facebook community which appears to be mostly USA based. I’m not sure of any details though. Hope this helps. Sue

My mum had botox injections to help with her antecollis. It didn't really work and we were advised about a couple of things, that the benefit would be short term and that getting the right dose amount is very difficult, if too much is given too quickly then it won't work, our consultant therefore tried smaller doses and worked up.

yes, we were told it is short term and he would have to have this procedure multiple times, most likely every 2 or so months. Thank you for your input
