I really think you need some medical support with your patient? It is such a complicated disease, is this set up for you?

I do have a hospice that he can go to but declines and also a palliative care team. He has 24/7 care and partner lives within. I just want to know what else I can do and pass on to my team of staff

Hi RhiMalloca,

My advice would be to ask a physiotherapist to assess as they will be best placed to advise the hospice team on other ways of managing this.

Kind regards,

Samantha, MSA Trust nurse

Hi, swallowing difficulties are a very unpleasant occurrence of MSA for some people. Do you have access to help from a speech and language therapist? Dad had an assessment from one and the therapust suggested having thickened fluids which helped. We eventually had to give him softer food so that he could swallow without choking.

There are various medications that also help with saliva as this can cause choking even without eating food.

I hope you manage to get some help.
