Hello there. Jackie hasn't tried hydrotherapy but it is something that we've thought about as it would be a way to exercise limbs etc whilst not having to worry about balance. I remembered a post in the PSP community by Kevin who talked about hydrotherapy and exercise. I've looked it up and you can find the post here healthunlocked.com/psp/post....
I'm sorry this doesn't answer the question of where. In our area, the only pools we know about are in Hereford which is a little too far to go to regularly.
Let us know how you get on and if you find anywhere for Mark to 'swim'.
Take care, Ian
Thanks that’s helpful.
Mark was a carer for people with multiple and profound disabilities and used to regularly take clients. He knows how beneficial it can be for relaxation and exercise. The place he used is now closed. He is getting physio at the mo so I might get him to ask.
Geoff used to go to sessions run by a neurology voluntary group associated with a private physio company. It was really great exercise at the time but Geoff stopped going when his mobility got worse as he didn’t want to be hoisted into the pool! It depends on people’s personalities what they want to do. I think that it could have been helpful for much longer.
I went to Salford Royal (my local hosp ) for hydro. It was lovely 'cos it was warm and Iwas not frightened of falling but I gave it up as getting out I felt "heavy " and I was frightened of falling on the non slip tiles they had on the floor before going for a shower.
I go to hydrotherapy every week and have done so for a year. I’m really loving this. I have problems with my balance and in the water I don’t have to worry about falling. When I’m in the pool I feel normal again.
Chris’s neurologist cautioned against it, on the grounds that the warm water would open the blood vessels and make his NOH worse than it already was.
