Hello again

My loved husband died in January and I had to come down south to a new nursing home. The chaos is dying down now. My voice is going and typing is difficult. But I’m glad to be back on line in the group chat.

I am so very sorry to hear about your husband. Isn't life so cruel at times? You didn't need that too?

I hope you are settling in where you are and are being treated well? As a matter of interest is it a Care Home or Nursing Home? If the latter that is fine. If the first there will come a time when you might not get the Care required because they won't understand what is wrong with you. So you need to have a good GP who will visit and keep an eye on you.

Sorry too about your voice and typing. Have you got a laminated chart with letters on it and some phrases? My son did one for my husband and it really worked well to communicate. Anyone with a computer and printer could do it. Then it just needs to be laminated. That is important as the first one my husband had ended up getting wet and was useless after Ribena made it a weird colour! Just a thought, but it might help you?

Have you got family close by?

Hugs to you.

Hi

Had missed you posting on here. So sorry that you lost your husband, what a lot of turmoil you must have gone through in sorting everything out. Unfortunately the MSA doesn't wait around whilst you get other things sorted out but keep at the typing whilst you can and get whatever adaptations you need to help you with it for when it is more difficult.

Glad to hear that. One less thing to worry about? Get your laminated letters and phrases done for you as it will help greatly.

So pleased to hear that you are in a good nursing home. That will make a big difference to you. Do you have access to a speech and language therapist? They can help with your communication difficulties.

Hello Penny, good to have you back!

I'm so glad you have found a good nursing home in Winchester - whilst you must miss the Borders, you must also be relieved to have a good home looking after you. You've done well to be still typing as you started to have typing problems a year ago. I am sure there may be a volunteer or helper at the home who would type for you in the future to keep you in touch with everyone here.

I remember well your love of going shopping, do you get a chance to pop down to the shops with someone pushing you - Winchester has some good shops from what I can remember of my visit many months ago.

Take care, great to have you back, Ian
