For the first 5 years of my diagnosis I was only on aspirin.

I was first diagnosed 24 years ago and have been on aspirin 75mg per day only ever since. I have been told that may change once I reach 60, in 8 years time.

Hi

Its really great to hear that you are taking aspirin for all those years and you did not need to take any other drugs. I'm 51 and only diagnosed in May this year my platelets are 1.1 Million. Can I ask what you platelet count is normally? I have just had a scan so waiting for these results.

I'm only on Aspirin at mo. Not sure if that will change at the end of the month though as I find that I'm getting more aches and pains.

Got diagnoised with ET in 2009 then MF last August

Mine went to 1029 now they have gone down to 728. Which is good but why do they go down so much in one hit? As mine went down by 200 in one go

Mine seem to stay around 700 to 800 and I get no noticeable symptoms other than occasional visual disturbances and feet tingling. I guess I'm lucky compared to a lot of ET sufferers.

I think normal range is 150 to 400. Certainly I was prescribed platelet lowering meds at 48 when my counts continued to climb above the 1,000. Interferon has reduced the counts to running between 400 to 550, so I haven't taken it for 2 years. When I hit 60 earlier this year, I started aspirin as an added precaution, but bruise quite badly unfortunately. I did take aspirin when first diagnosed, but gave up because of the bruising. Now I'm older, I think it wiser to take it.
