Yes. Because of high cholesterol and high blood pressure caused by thick blood, statins are necessary for me to reduce risks to my heart.

Yep. I had a MI January last year which lead to the discovery of my PV. I was put on a whole range of tablets to take daily including 80mg Atorvastatin. After many tests and presumably an awful lot of money being spent they finally accepted what I'd be telling them; that my liver had been knocked to pieces by the high dosage statin. I was taken off them for a couple of weeks whilst the liver recovered and am now on a far more tolerable 10mg daily dosage. Even though both my cholesterol and blood pressure was/is fine, all the medico's agree that I should continue to take the statin.

I have been taking statins for a couple of years now - I know there are different opinions about taking them, but then this happens with so many pills and potions!!!
