Anyone any ideas on how to reduce the uncomfortable body itch that comes with PV ?. Tried various antihistamines with no success.

I suffered terrible itching after my brand of medication was changed ,when on white hydoxyurea i couldnt survive without high strengh anti histermines as soon as I swapped back to the pink and grey version the problem was solved.

So far, I only had itching problem after a shower/bath. I solved the problem 95% by patting myself dry. It was the friction of the towel and not the water that was causing the problem, though I am aware that itching can be caused only from contact with water. So far, I only have very minor itching at other times.

I do not call it an itch, both my oncologist and I refer to it as a burn, do not be fooled in thinking that it is skin related and spend money on itch, creams oils etc, it is vibration that sets off the release of histamine, serotonin and other in your blood from your PV, reduce the vibration on your skin, I've not had a shower for 5 years, can't go in the rain, cannot wear a bra or anything that constricts the flow of blood in your veins, be gentle when putting on and off clothing and any other form of blood stimulation, I urge you to monitor this for yourself and see what happens, a good anti histamine every day allows for a build up in your system, this helps also...... There is a great deal more I have learnt through my many years of suffering, happy tp share...... Cheers, Jo

My solution is that, after shower, I went to reserve 30 -40 min to softly scratch myself with comb.

I haven't had the 'itch' for quite some time thank goodness. It was more like pins being stuck in me when I showered when it was at its worst. I found that drying off and then getting my clothes on as quiclky as possible helped releive the symptoms. "Itch" is too soft a word for it, and it is very difficult for people who have been unaffected by it to understand how painful it is and how an affected person hates the thought of showering.

I agree with you MichaelS. Itch is not the the right descriptor for the worst of the sensation. And i hate and try put off showering because in effect it feels like self inflicted torture
