Brilliant news - hope you're celebrating π
Fantastic news!!
May I ask you a question: to what degree were you a match with your donor? My brother recently tested his HLA type and he is only a half match. I'm wondering how difficult it is to find a full match. Congratulations on your continued success, and thank you for any response.
My donor was a stranger. I don't know the figures for the match. Often they quote thongs like 12/12 and I think thus just looking at 12 dna features. I've also seen things for a relative like haplo match. I think this where 50% of your dna is the same but it is across all half the genes. I may be wrong so it is something to take up with your specialist
Congrats and continue to have wonderful success!!

By the number of replies, everybody understands what you mean. But what is SCT and GVHD? I'm sure if I tried hard enough I would figure it out and I realise it is legitimate to use acronyms as shorthand, but I would like to make a general appeal to posters to not assume that their acronyms are known by everybody on the list. Best Wishes
GvHD happens when particular types of white blood cell (T cells) in the donated stem cells or bone marrow attack your own body cells. This is because the donated cells (the graft) see your body cells (the host) as foreign and attack them.
Stem cell transplants(STC) are most often used to treat people with cancers that affect blood cells, such as leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, and myelodysplastic syndromes.
Hope that gives you some answers ππ»
