Sauna use, Heat shock proteins, and MPNs?

This is going to be a really advanced question but I have read that HSP90 has a negative effect MPN carriers through TNF-a and increasing allele burden potentially.

Anyone have any information on this? My gut tells me it’s fine given exercise also increases HSP90 and is considered a good thing. But I’ve also read Cold shock proteins can help and even maybe slow down the allele burden. So thinking about doing cold plunges.

I cant speak for if it medically helps or hinders but I regularly sea dip/swim in the ice cold Atlantic and absolutely love it, and love how I feel after. I will continue to do so for as long as I'm physically able.

Yeah I’m going to start looking into doing cold plunges or something to benefit from cold shock proteins as well. I don’t think there’s any actual studies yet but mechanistic theory type papers. Enough along with mood boosting properties that either way is beneficial.

Most research has shown no benefit for cold plunges in general. I highly doubt there is research that suggests either a positive or negative benefit from it for MPNs. But if you have a source I’d love to read it. Personally I highly doubt it will have any impact at all. Would a cold plunge impact cancer? Your internal temperature stays the same and even if it declined by a few degrees temporarily why would that slight change for 5 minutes have any impact?

I will try and find it but I look at so much stuff I run across something and don’t think to save it but I will summarize if I remember correctly…

Cold shock proteins downregulate TNF-a thus lowering the ability of the clonal mutation to further expand and cause inflammation . I believe it was a specific CSP but can’t remember. It’s interesting because I’ve read Sauana use increases TNF-a but I don’t know if that would have the opposite effect of increasing clonal expansion and inflammation or not.

Found it:

biosignaling.biomedcentral....

The modulation of tumor necrosis factor receptor signaling by extracellular cold shock proteins is relevant to a number of diseases, including preeclampsia, diabetic nephropathy, systemic lupus erythematosus, liver fibrosis, and infectious diseases where TNF plays a central role in disease pathology [183]. Additionally, TNF promotes expansion of JAK2V617F positive cells in myeloproliferative neoplasms [184].

MPNs aren’t covered in that article. It would be hard to imagine this kind of study for MPNs. Presumably some moderation of the inflammation could help. But in terms of actually improving allele burden- seems like a big leap, especially when the treatment might be all of 5 minutes periodically.

The article also doesn’t really link cold plunges to specific benefits. I’m not suggesting it doesn’t exist but the article is fairly speculative as to the beneficial impact and doesn’t really have data.

I do not have any medical information on this, but I take saunas and do cold plunge which feel wonderful to me so intuitively I think that they are not a problem and actually help me.
