I was told to have protected sex more so if younger I’m 70 we don’t use protection it’s individual choice I see no reason not too but we all have different views and if your young and considering children you need to ask experts

People with MPNs can most certainly get married. these conditions are caused by acquired mutations in hematopoietic stem cells in the bone marrow. These are the progenitor cells that make blood cells. MPNs are not in any way contagious. The most common of the three driver mutations (JAK2, CALR, MPL) is the JAK2 mutation. This is often acquired in early childhood or in utero. It can take many decades for the disease to manifest, but for some it happens earlier in life.

If you need cytoreductive medications and you are still of childbearing years, then that does impact your treatment choices. Hydroxyurea (HU) is not a first choice for younger people who may still wish to have children. HU is teratogenic and mutagenic and cannot be used before or during pregnancy. It can also cause hypogonadism in males (low/no sperm count). Males who may want future children and use HU are recommended to consider sperm banking before starting on HU. HU also passes into semen and vaginal secretions so some recommend using a condom if either partner is using HU. Note that there are other choices to treat MPNs that are a better choice for those of childbearing years.

Females who wish to conceive and carry to term can do so with a MPN. However, this is a higher risk pregnancy and requires additional care.

That was a longer answer to your original question. There is information you need to manage a MPN. Some of the treatments can impact childbearing; however, you absolutely can get married and have children if you wish.
