Side Effects of Hydrea?

Ho everyone,

I had a stroke last year which led to them discovering that I am Jak2 positive.

I was initial put onto Pegasus, but that had horrendous side effects and was then put onto Hydrea.

Almost since first getting put onto Hydrea, there have been a bunch of different things that I feel can only be side effects of the drug.

Most prominently, and most recently, I’ve really been struggling with weird, unusual, dream-like thoughts when I’m dozing off to sleep.

Literally, the moment I close my eyes, I’m thinking (or dreaming) of the most random things that make little to no sense, and I do sometimes forget them as soon as I open my eyes again.

This has started to creep into my fully wakeful mind too.

Has anyone experienced anything like this while on Hydrea?

Any help or advice is appreciated as I feel I can’t take much more of it 😔

do hope you are recovering from stroke.

Havnt had what you describe but maybe try some relaxation techniques. Guided meditation, Yoga Nidra ,whilst lying in bed . Lots on Utube.

yes I had same on Hydroxy any many problems with gastric troubles & exhaustion which went when I came off Hydroxy. Some of us react badly & many have no problem on it. Interferon has been good for me but it took lots of changing to low doseage to be fine. I now have no reactions to the drug & feel fit & energy again . Julia 👌

Have you taken advice from MPN with your treatment reactions they are the most knowledgeable & sorted my treatment problems 👌

Others have reported that HU caused alterations in dream state, but this is an uncommon side effect. HU is known to cause hallucinations and other neurological side effects. Any neurological side effects should be reported promptly to your MPN care team.

I would second the suggestion from Mostew. Relaxation techniques can be helpful. I use a very effective Qigong technique called the Six Healing Sounds. youtube.com/watch?v=_yMHHhx...(Not working as expected?)
