I had my monthly haematology appointment yesterday. My usual doctor was on holiday so I saw one of the others on team. He went through the blood results, stable, spoke about the nosebleed I had, was generally pleased with how I am.
Then he asked why I wasn’t interested in transplant with the team in Sheffield! My usual doctor told me this was a definite no because of my age - that was over a year ago! Told him that, he didn’t really comment, and I was so surprised about his words I couldn’t think of what to say!
Maybe I could have been on the road towards a transplant, or not, it would have been good to have a proper conversation with the transplant team whether I was suitable.
Anyway carrying on with Rux and EPO at the moment.

It is worth follow-up if you are still interested in pursuing SCT. Suggest reaching out the the transplant team directly to see whether they have an age cutoff that they use.

I had the same experience. Original haematologist said I was not suitable for stemcell. Saw one of Dr Harrison team recently and was asked if I was considering stemcell transplant?…
I was totally surprised by the question, but will also check this out at my next appointment.
I am nearly 70 and also have autoimmune. I have had a heart attack in 2019.
