This could be a number of things, including an infection, GERD, or a hydroxyurea adverse effect. Suggest you have this checked out to determine the cause if it does not resolve soon.
If you are asking whether it could take a year fo a HU adverse effect to manifest, the answer is yes. That is not to say that is what this is, only that it is possible. You need a proper assessment to determine the cause.
I started getting heartburn several months before my diagnosis. Now 7 years and 2 endoscopies later, famotidine and gaviscon. It's a lot worse. Some nights the most horrendous reflux that burns my throat, hurts my ears and leaves me coughing for several minutes. One thing I have learned is that if I'm going to eat a cream cake, do it at lunch time not tea time. I never leave home without a small bottle of gaviscon. I do find it stains my teeth, making me look like a smoker, but it helps.
I have experienced burning sensations in my throat and chest area for about 2 years. My haematologist thinks it is not a side effect of Rux which I started some 2.5 years ago. My family says it sounds like heartburn but it was strange that I have never in my life had heartburn before, no matter what I ate or drunk. Although I don't have a cough I wondered if it could it be a post COVID thing, however, my chest was clear when my GP listened to it when I experienced heart palpitations a while back.I haven't taken anything for it yet but am very close to visiting the pharmacist because it can keep me awake at night and is unpleasant .
