I've read a few posts from people with mpns and ear problems. I suddenly developed some deafness in one of my ears a few months ago. The usual gp ideas based on a possible blockage in my eustachian tube didn't work. I went to an ent consultant and I have had a bleed in my middle ear which can be seen through thr eardrum. It is now dried blood and I'll need an op to clear it. He said this is v rare. We don't know if it was a result of low platelets that I had last year

Ear problems
Sorry to hear about this new issue. It seems reasonable to suspect that the thrombocytopenia may be related to this inappropriate bleeding incident. Your MPN Specialist would be the best person to weigh in on this issue.
Please do let us know what you learn and how you get on.
Hi sorry to hear about your earI had similar issue with dried blood in ear following a burst eardrum and had hearing muffling luckily for me I had an ENT appt comimg up for a different issue . Consultant tried to remove blood but couldn't as I had very narrow ear canals he told me to go and put sodium bicarbonate ear drops in it for few weeks and he would try again if it failed would need op. I religiously used drops twice a day and luckily enough on my return he managed to remove the blood and saw the eardrum had healed. It maybe worth a try to loosen the blood it may then come out
Can you tell me the name of the sodium bicarbonate ear drops and where you might buy them? Please and thank you.
