Travelling

I am travelling to New York beginning of December with my daughter. I have Essential Thrombocythemia and I'm taking hydroxycarbamide as well as other meds. Do I need a letter from my consultant or any proof to say why I'm taking hydroxycarbamide Thank you

Linda

Probably not, but it is always recommended to have a cover letter from doctor for all prescription medications when travelling internationally. I have only had this be an issue once, when passing through Vienna, Austria. It helped to have it travelling with Besremi since it had to be handled separately frome verything else. It is very important for all meds to be in their original containers when travelling.

Happy travelts.

Don't think you need a letter, but make sure your travel insurance covers you for Et

When I travelled to USA last year I did take a letter from a consultant but no one asked to look at it. I think I would take it again though, just in case….

It didn’t take much room up after all.

hi Linphy, I have found this information on the U.S. Customs and Border Protection about taking medications with you help.cbp.gov/s/article/Arti...

you can ask your haematologist or clinical nurse specialist if they will write you a letter, or your GP, to confirm the medication you are taking, and if you have a repeat prescription form for your other medications you can take that with you as well. I hope you have a lovely time in New York with your daughter. Best wishes, Maz

A list of your prescribed meds issued by your pharmacy is what is recommended by Canada. That's what I use to go to Europe and the US. Never had any problems and it was never looked at, except by Canadian customs when I got back LOL

I always take a copy of my current prescription when I travel. I’ve never needed it, but just in case you end up in hospital overseas it’s worth taking with you. Also I got a DVT following a long journey so make sure you wear flight socks/compression stockings, and move around often. New York is a fantastic city enjoy your trip xx

I’ve recently traveled to the USA. I took a note of my prescription with me, but was not asked for proof of medication.

However, make sure you have adequate travel insurance and take the documents with you.
