Hiya,

I'm 53 , have ET, on 500 mg hydroxy and little aspirin each day, platelets steady around 450. I was menopausal in early 40's, I had terrible insomnia , which I didn't even know was a menopause symptom, so in consultation with haematologist and GP , I started on hrt, as quality of life was awful, so it is definitely possible .

I was reluctant , as I feel I take lots of meds already , so I try to avoid adding more , but I thought long and hard about risks /rewards to me , to complicate matters further I'm adopted so I am unaware of any family medical history risks I may carry , in the end I decided that any possible increase in clot risk , was worth the improvement to my quality of life and also added protection to heart and bones

So my advice is figure out what is best for you , talk to haematologist ( who will know little about hrt ) and gp who won't know much about Mpn, and then weigh what risks you feel are important

Best of luck

Caz

Hi Jody, it might help you to watch the video of the virtual forum we held earlier this year focussing on HRT, menopause and MPNs

I, too, am in menopause and have PV. I decided against HRT. I take amytryptaline for the insomnia and interferon and aspirin for the PV. Exercise, vitamin D, tumeric and fish oil are a daily recipe that really helps too with both menopause and pv symptoms. But there is a history of heart attacks and stokes in my family. Your decision must be yours only.
