I thought I would just check in and update my SCT journey. I am over 300 days post transplant now and feeling pretty well generally. Today I had a donor lymphocyte infusion in order to, as my consultant put it, strengthen the transplant. Sometimes this is done if chimerism is falling but mine is okay - the Southampton policy is to do it anyway, unless there is severe GVHD. It was an interesting experience as the lymphocytes are stored in liquid nitrogen, so it was like a magic show when they appeared! The nurse then defrosted them quickly like a boil in the bag meal! One of the after effects is an odour from the preservative used, which I can't smell but my poor husband can - apparently I smell strongly of sweetcorn!
Immediately after this I had a BMB, which was not too bad, thanks to huge quantities of gas and air, which made me feel pretty drunk.
I am knackered now and very glad to be home!
Thanks all for your ongoing support, Jennie

so great to hear from you and with such great news! What a journey you have been on! Wow! Nothing wrong with smelling like sweet corn, although it might make your hubby hungry.
Hi Jenny , ,Thanks for your interesting update , , guess there's many worse smells than sweetcorn. Funny how time takes on a much greater significance in the life of a transplantee , , but it doesn't seem to slow down any and it before you know it your Anniversary will be here. . A significant milestone indeed and something to celebrate.
I'm sorry you had to endure another BMB , , sadly one of the required procedures associated with SCT. Hope it doesn't leave you in too much discomfort.
You're doing remarkably well and im so pleased for you because it can be a rocky road so long may you continue going from strength to strength.
I am really glad that the progress is good and that you are generally well. I am learning a lot from your updates , thank you. I honestly hope I will never need this information but it is helpful to rationalise on potential future outcomes. So thank you once again and hope you have a good summer and the smell of sweetcorn goes away soon!

Good to hear from you Jennie and I’m glad to hear you’re making great progress. Sweetcorn is not the worst aroma in the world and it will pass soon enough. I can’t believe it is almost a year since your SCT. I’m currently at 1 year 1 month and a week and it’s just flown by. Luckily my chimerism has been at 100% since the donor cells took hold and hasn’t dipped at all and I’ve only had mild GVHD skin rash. I asked the doctor if I would have to have another BMB at all and he said only if I wanted one; of course I quickly declined his generosity!!
Get some rest now, it’s the fuel for getting better!!
