A surefire way to travel for 4,5 weeks with Besremi!
June 20th: did my injection Pen 1 - 50mcg and Pen 2 - 150mcg. (100mcg left over), 650km drive to Padua with 3 Besremi Pens in my tiny fridge plugged into the car’s cigarette lighter. Weather was 30°C. Besremi in fridge upon arrival.
June 23: Drove 7 hours to Mattinata, southern Italy, weather at 38°C. Oof! During our lunch break, took fridge off the car lighter and it beautifully worked on its own battery; still at 6°C.
Upon arrival in the apartment in Mattinata, the apartment fridge didn’t cool below 10°C! Alarm!! I checked my options and stored the Besremi (worth €7000!) at the mini market next door in the back of the ham storage fridge. 🙄🙄🙄 Eventually, I figured out what the problem with the fridge. It was built into a cabinet with tiny breathing holes at the bottom (heat rises) and it would warm up and strike. Keeping the cabinet door open, I got the fridge down to 5°C. I brought the Besremi back to the apartment. The owner was thankful for my clever idea. He’s now opening holes at the top of the cabinet to allow the heat to escape 🙂
June 27: drove another 200 km in 35°C weather to Bari and waited 1,5 hours in the heat (battery operation), boarded the ferry with my tiny refrigerator (normal wall socket electrical operation) 18 hours on the ferry. Everything was fine at 6°C.
June 28: Arrival in Greece, doctor’s appointment and further driving, on fridge battery and cigarette socket power. One night apartment (this was becoming easy now) Besremi in fridge at accommodation. Soon the Odyssee would have a rest.
June 29th: 1 hour car ride 35°C to port, Besremi powered by car cigarette lighter and then battery on board of ferry, one hr sailing and arrival on the island Zakynthos. Supermarket, etc all on fridge battery. Arrival at apartment, Besremi in fridge. Phew! My Besremi and I made it! 😀
July 2: tomorrow is my injection - Pen 1 - 100 mcg Pen 2 - 100mcg (150mcg left over)
I’ve decided to be clever and make my life easy when going back. There are two ferries and two overnights in Greece and in north Italy before getting back to Vienna Austria. 1,050 km. I had planned to take my next Besremi on the July 18 upon returning. I’ve decided to take the leftover 150mcg of Besremi on the 16th before we sail off to Italy. Arriving in Vienna on the 18th I will take the remaining 50mcg. This way, if anything happens to the left over Besremi, 50mcg, it won’t be a financial disaster. more Besremi travel stress is gone.
The best investment was this small fridge. It also has pockets where I store extra needles and the practical carrying case has an adjustable strap that allows it to be safely hung around the neck.
I had room for 3 Besremi pens and my husbands 30 single dose eye drops that need refrigeration.
Another point: We bought a Swarey battery that hooks up to sun collectors that fit beautifully in the car. We have this for emergencies at home and for trips where we need electricity. No matter what happens, (accident, break down, no gas, whatever). We can run the little fridge on that. 😁
Apparently, after about 1,5 years of Besremi, I will only need one shot per month!!!
Hope to have helped anyone! Don’t forget: Don’t fret, where there’s a will, there’s a way!
Happy summer! Anag
