Heading out on a long haul flight. LA to Sydney (and then some...). Bought this little trinket for traveling with refrigeration-required medication (Pegasys). Thought I'd share the details. Keeps cooling for about 48 hrs. 4 All Family medicine cooler. ~$40 USD

Travel cooler for Pegasys
We've discussed this design before, but the price you paid is lots lower. Can you say where you got it? It's a great solution since it's a vacuum type thermos (correct?) so it should last a long time cooling.
Yes - it's a thermos style canister. Designed for insulin. Amazon. They make other higher priced models also for more temp sensitive medicines but since Pegasys isn't that temp sensitive ( it just needs to stay cool for 24hr...), I choose this model. Looking at my receipt it actually only cost $32.
wow. I just started searching for a cooling product yesterday. I found one that cools with USB, car plug, cellphone adapter and regular electrical plug. About 260€. This would be good on a long ferry trip and I’d have guaranteed coolness for the Besremi.
The cooler you’ve suggested is really good and a great deal. I will look into it. Thanks!!
just checked out yours. It doesn’t have a cooling system itself. The ones that can be plugged in go for $140-200. Will be looking into these for better security for my Besremi. 🙂
This is a little pricey, but I went for it. I just don’t trust our refrigerator to stay in the right temperature range. I’ve really liked this a lot for home use. You could travel with it, too (can plug into car’s cigarette lighter or run on battery for 6 hours if power is lost).
I found a cooler lunch bag best armed myself with plastic bags with zip seals so that I can request ice if needed. I also bought a little fridge thermometer.
I’m finding small frozen bottles of water and the small medical ice packs good. The small ice packs freeze easily in hotel room fridges.
Currently 1/2 way through a 6 week tour of Australasia. So flights will take your bag off you and store in their fridge if not they will freeze your blocks or give you ice.
I find using ice, etc too unstable. I bought this last night. It’s pricey, but it’s easy. I can keep the Besremi at a consistent 4C. If something should happen and the pen doesn’t work anymore, €5000 are gone and I’ll have to explain that to the insurance company, not to mention the resulting health issues. I’ve already had 6 TIAs. 😑 I will definitely keep little ziploc bags with me!

Have a splendid time in Australasia!!!
just looked it up. It looks really good. Maybe if I’m going to do more long distant travelling travel I’ll invest. Will the battery keep the jabs cool without use of electric ?
from what Ice understood, it will keep cold from 6-10 hours. The meds are soooo expensive and if I’m off on a long trip from Austria to Greece with my car and ferry through Italy, I will definitely need it. Hotel and Pension refrigerators are often not dependable. 😉
gosh what a trip! Do try and get a ferry around some of the Greek islands . They are well worth it. Enjoy.
Ya!! I’m a regular at greek islands (am greek). especially the Ionian islands: Corfu, Paxos, cefallonia, Ithaka, Zakynthos! My parents come from the Peloponese, therefore most of my vacations are on Zakynthos. I just pop over to see family. 🙂 nothing like the Greek Islands and their music. I can already smell the herbs that grow everywhere!! Hope you get down there soon too! Maybe next time I’ll fish!
haven’t done those, loved Arki and Tilos can’t remember the group name.
Actually travelling with a Greek Cypriot now. Touring The islands I believe beats Australasia.. crystal waters no sharks crocodiles or life threatening jellyfish and stingrays or mega rain storms. Enjoy
I have one of these for flying with Pegasys but not used it yet.
I will definitely be interested in how well it works as I’ll be using mine in a few months time to fly to Florida from UK.
Enjoy your trip.
Xx
that’s really good. I assume you will take the peg out of its cardboard sealed box ? Security when I flew told me box had to remain sealed through flight . So I took small cool bag with them in . 👍
Yes, I'll be taking them out of the box. This canister is designed for preloaded insulin pens. I haven't read anywhere my peg box would have to be sealed... It will already be open since I'm only taking two doses with me for a two week trip.
double check with airline as security told me they had to remain in sealed box prescription issued in until used regarding others getting hold of syringes . Certainly worth checking if passing through overseas transit airports. They made me fill in special forms & produce Drs letter as proof of needing the drug. It sets the drug warning off on screening . But I was told it had to remain in sealed box . Julia 👍
Thanks for the heads up! I'll bring my prescription and check with airline. I don't and won't even have an unsealed box available. I need two of the four doses (per box) in the next two weeks before heading out... So having an unopen box is not even an option for me.
Mine are packed individually so I see your problem . Hopefully all goes smoothly it’s only to clear us that we are not drug smuggling something ha which is what security explained to me . Especially in Foreign customs control as it sets the drug indicator off . 👍
this all sounds so crazy! I’ll be travelling with a 1/2 used Besremi pen. 2,500€ ! Can you imagine if they cause problems? I think Austria is cooler, but England stiffer with flying laws. Don’t even want to think of the us and all my stuff will be written in German 😑 perhaps I’ll be asked to have legal translation! 😂
I like it but unfortunately there is not this brand in Europe.
According to the website they ship to all corners of the globe.
Have great trip to Sydney I can’t make the visit there to relatives this year but just love the view in the harbour . Happy travels Julia 👍
Would that insert go in the freezer or fridge? Can PEG freeze? I would be worried about that freezing if that insert was frozen.
hi I’m currently travelling around nz then Australia 6 weeks in total. I took a thermal lunch bag and ice blocks. And plastic bottles full of frozen water.
I found out that any Aussie pharmacy will take your spent needles.,good luck.
I just used a small insulated lunch box and small ice packs. Seemed to do the job
What is recommend for Besremi?
