should I accept antivirals: tested positive for... - MPN Voice
should I accept antivirals
if your Dr is ok with it {no concern with your meds) it is a good risk reducer.
Hi I had covid last week, M
I contacted GP who referred my covid case onto a specialist. As GP was unsure.
he Covid specialist contacted me by phone, asked me about my symptoms. But my symptoms of sore throat and cough, were not enough to be prescribed antivirals.
I was positive for a week in the end, 3rd time of covid so far.
So being offered antivirals must depend on outcome of phone survey, hope this helps.
Iwas very breathless& Dr asked for me to have antiviral from hospital but hospital refused & Dr issued antibiotics for chest & although I had Covid it worked. I got the impression that there had been a few side effects of the anti viral & didn’t want to issue unless admitted to hospital …
I had Covid the other week and was given Paxlovid. I didn’t think I was that ill - coughing a lot, sore throat, headache, low grade temperature - and wasn’t convinced about taking anti virals but Dr said I was eligible (on Hydroxy) and generally medic friends thought A Good Thing. Having got them (what a rigmarole!) I tested negative very quickly and came through it seemingly unscathed. The Paxlovid is a bit vile but entirely manageable. Just stock up on chocolate :)))
I hear the infused ones maybe better than Paxlovid but I don’t know for sure
there is concern with some of the latest variants that the antibodies are less or not effective. Most COVID is still ba.5 but if one has certain of the new ones Pax astill works same way on all.
I hear the issue with Pax is it gets rid of the symptoms for awhile and then there can be bounce back of symptoms for some, I heard a rumour thats what happened to Biden, rumours are rumours of course
iy is all about how you see the risk benefit analysis. Not a black and white issue. Whan I had COVID I opted for monoclonal antibodies. Very much a matter of personal preference
Just had Covid 3 weeks ago and Infectious disease specialist initially said Paxlovid. When I told her I looked up the Contraindications list for Paxlovid and that 2 of my meds suggested the dosages would have to be managed. One item on the list of drugs that are contraindicated are "Certain chemotherapeutic agents". I also mentioned the known rebound with Paxlovid, that I would not feel comfortable with it, and would prefer the monoclonal antibodies (MA) infusion Bebtelovimab. She concurred and I was given the MA the next day (on day 4) and all my symptoms (except lack of energy, smell and taste) disappeared in 24 hours. That was a week ago. All other symptoms resolved as well. I learned that the main issue here in Hawaii is the lack of beds, nurses and the MA itself to do the MA infusion. So much easier to write a script than admit for the MA infusion. Glad I insisted as I felt so much much better so quickly and didn't have the anxiety I would have had by taking Paxlovid. Not sure what variant I had but probably the latest.
