mosquito repellent

I am going on holiday and would like to know if anybody knows of something natural I can use that would keep the mosquitos away? I can’t stand the poisonous sprays and lotions people use, it makes my skin itch and burn.

a lot of people swear by avon skin so soft dry oil spray, dont know if it classes as natural and if it would be any different, but it certainly feels more natural than your usual deet based sprays

Apparently eating Marmite does the trick! I got bitten 15 times on holiday recently. I hate the smell of Marmite and have therefore never eaten it, but next year…!

I find homeopathy excellent both as a repellent and a cure for mosquito bites. You need two remedies: Staphysagria 30ch as repellent (take one each day for a week before you travel). Then if you get bitten take one Apis 30ch which should get rid of itch and swelling. Happy holidays!🌻😎

As a confirmed marmite baby I have to admit it doesn't work for me. Not even rubbing it in!!!

Hello there!I recently returned from Kephalonia and usually get bitten to pieces. Loathe the pesky things! This year I made my own insect repellent. I found the recipe on the Liz Earle well-being site. I will link it below. I also started taking a B vitamin a few weeks before we went, which I heard was good. maybe why marmite was mentioned above. I also read that using coconut oil as a body moisturiser which I normally do at home repels them as they don’t like the smell. I forgot mine and it would’ve turned liquid in the heat anyway so maybe not very practical.

Well I didn’t get bitten once which was such a relief. However there were definitely fewer bites on our whole family this year so I don’t really know how effective my potion was!

I do hope you have a happy bite free holiday xx

PS

Take lavender oil to dab on bites if you do get bitten. Also a teaspoon warmed in a cup of very hot water then pressed on a bite for a few minutes (careful you don’t burn yourself) offers good relief from stings. 🦟

I’m afraid Avon skin so soft doesn’t work for me only strong sprays. They do say citronella works but again not on me. Good luck if you find something do let me know. I’ll read your replies with interest

I’ve recently been recommended to try burning ground coffee as an insect repellent - just put a couple of spoonfuls in a dish and light with a match! Tried it on wasps so far and it worked very well but haven’t tried it on mosquitoes yet - much nicer smell than chemical mosquito coils etc!
