Hello waddles22 - soz no idea if Deet is safe but I’ve never liked the thought of it + use instead the original dry oil spray (Avon skin so soft) - it does not, and has never purported to be a midge/mozzy repellant but was recommended many years ago and has always worked well for me on ‘home grown’ UK nasties (if however I was ever to find myself headed anywhere near tropical ones I would certainly get medical advice) Anne-Marie xx

Hi.

I have had PV for 6 years and used Deet many holiday in Europe and the Caribbean with no ill effects. (I consider the effects of bites would be worse than that of Deet)

I believe the current forms of Deet are more friendly than the earlier ones.

Bob.

I Waddles22, I think it's understood that Deet is an unpleasant and possibly unsafe sbstance for anyone. I just want to second the comments made regarding Avon SSS. My husband has aggressive and frightening reactions to bites, he has been hospitalised 4 times with blood poisoning as a result of bites in the UK. All the while using Deet sprays etc. Since moving to Avon SSS and taking regular anti histamine, he's stayed out of hospital. He is bitten less frequently and his bites no longer flare up so violently. J

I stay away from ALL chemicals, only use organic or self made cleaners, cosmetics, soaps, creams. It’s made a huge difference in my wellbeing.

The skin sucks everything up and products go right into your blood stream! More efficient and effective that taking anything orally.

Just read the post above. That is a good point but you have to weigh up your position- bites sometimes give me a bad reaction and I then have to take antihistamine.

Not what you're looking for?
