Hello, I have telephone consultations with my haematologist every so many weeks.I arrange a blood test through my GP.

My question is how can I get a copy of my platelet count , wbc and all the other data from the blood test.

Thankyou

Hi, I live in South Wales and have not been given a copy of my blood tests despite asking several times. I now have to ask individually for them to be read to me when I have my telephone review. I'm not sure if I'm asking for them all but these are the counts I request so I can track any changes: hematocrit, platlets, neutrophils, white blood cells, haemoglobin plus liver and kidney function - biliirium and ( not disclosed to me until last week despite over 5 years of treatment) creatinine and ALT. I hope you do get a copy - please let me/ us know if you do manage to obtain a copy!

In the UK it is a matter of law that all of your records must be provided to you upon request. I believe there may be a 21-day deadline. Some do this through hard copies provided at the time of an appointment. Note that your provider has the results on the screen when you are being seen. All you have to do is ask the provider to hit the print button. The other way is to call the providers admin staff and have them mail you a copy. My hematology office always gives me an immediate copy of CBCs since they have their own lab and the results are done in about 5 minutes.

The other way to access your labs and reports is through the NHS patient portal. This allows you direct access to your medical records. This is my preferred way to access records. Most portals allow me to see immediate results and shift to a historic view so I can see all of my results in chart form. This lets me track my results over time. All of my providers here in the USA have patient portals. Some of the portals even share results automatically.

Here is the link to access the NHS Patient Portal.

Others on the forum have reported difficulty accessing the NHS Patient portal in some parts of the UK. It seems to be more well advertised and used in some areas than others. Perhaps others from the UK can explain the issues involved and how best to access the portal in specific areas of the UK.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, I did try but apparently this isn't available in Wales.

Sorry to hear that. It is unfortunate that something so easy to set up when the system uses an electronic medical record is not already in place. Wishing you all the ready access to medical records that is your right as a patient.

Take a look here: myhealthonline-inps2.wales....

Seems to be the slowest website ever devised but it may help. You'll need a referral from your GP.

Just console yourself with the thought that jumping through hoops is good exercise....,,,,😉

That looks like it might the the way to go. I hope it works for those of you in Wales.

You are right that jumping through hoops is good exercise. However, hula hoops are more fun. 😃

You might need to be persistent. If it’s requested by hospital they have a duty to send you full blood test results . When they send next appointment letter some are sent but not all. I didn’t realise at first.

Hi I used to hone up and request a copy which they would post or I’d pick up. Now I go onto my NHS app and it’s there. Good luck.

If the blood test is requested by the GP you should be able to get the results on patient access if your GP has this. However if the blood tests are ordered from the hospital if you are under a haematologist I haven’t found a way to get results on any portal but I email my haematology secretary and she sends them via return.

It is done by my GP but requested by Haematology. Apparently I have to ask for the results to be sent to my GP as well as Haematology.

I realise reading all of these posts re results how fortunate I am to be treated in France where I was diagnosed. My nurse comes to the house to take my blood(pris de sang),ordered by my consultant at the hospital, immmediately it goes to the laboratoire, result to me ,my G P & Consultant.Any problems they consult together.I am tested every 2 months for everything, liver ,kidney any other organ necessary. Was on Hydrea But Jakavi for 4 yrs now..The heat we are having here....it’s 35 today & doesn’t cool in the evening has made me quite poorly,so Urgence to hospital one night, tested for everything, results in 5 hrs all was ok just heat exhaustion,so allowed home.Scanned my brain too as I had collapsed so even checked all was well there too. I really feel angry that others in U K do not get results,I have folders of x rays ,scan & blood, lung results that would fill a library.,not to mention several fractures o f various limbs !!!!I am English ,lived Fr for 16 yrs ,PV nearly 12 yrs.I wish all of you the very best.Best of Luck to get what is legally yours.
