I’m in CV7, as is a neighbour and we both have myleofibrosis. We both have attended ward 19 at Heartlands Hospital which is a centre of excellence for MPNs, for many years.
In the last few months our MF Doctor has opened a clinic at Solihull Hospital which is much closer to CV7 than Heartlands. Far more convenient.
Hi I’m in Solihull and have PV. Like Norman45 until last year I was under the care of ward 19 at Heartlands hospital in Birmingham but was moved to the new Haematology and Oncology unit at Solihull hospital when it opened. I would really recommend it, far more convenient and the staff are wonderful.
Currently, I go to Leicester Royal Infirmary for my consultation, if I need to have a venesection I have to book to go to Leicester Royal. Whats the situation in Solihull?
My better half is a nurse and she takes my blood and I hand it into my local surgery.. Saves a bit of time on the consultation day..
Does this health authority prescribe Pegasus?
I will have my next appointment on the 3rd Jan, hope to be in our new home about mid January..
You don’t necessarily have to change - you can attend any hospital you want so could stay at LRI if you’re happy with your treatment there. I attend LRI and while it’s a big and busy clinic I’ve always been pleased with the standard of care and knowledge of MPNs of the team there.
I live in rural Ireland. My haematologist is based in Dublin, where all our centres of excellence are... I travel 4 hours and back by train to attend appointments and have done so for 13 years. If you're happy with your haematology department and consultant, why change??
Hi Karol_Rua , I also live in rural ireland - Sligo - and travel to St. James in Dublin. I have advanced MF and usually go up every 3 months. I go to Sligo hosp every 3 months also. Both haems have told me if I have any concerns I don't need an appointment and so far this has worked out well for me. I catch the 5.45 train and am usually on the 1.00 train to come home. I would never change my haem but it really is a long trip up to dublin when I only live 15 mins from Sligo but as you say it's where our centre of excellence is. I've known both haems throughout my MF journey of 10 and a half years.
Hi, great to hear from you. Likewise, I've shared most of my ET journey with one lovely competent haematologist and wouldn't dream of changing. Thats the downside, I guess, of living in mayo and sligo. Dublin is also where I attend other clinics and have been there weekly over last three weeks...😴😴
Best wishes, Karol
