I have been sick for a week. Mild fever, sore throat, cough, runny and stuffy nose. My best friend tested positive for Covid. I tested negative. We were together all day last Saturday. Now she is better and I’m still sick .🤷♀️ I have my 2nd Besremi shot tomorrow. Hate to add nausea and diarrhea to my list! On a good note- my HCT is down to 45.6. It was 51.3 before the phlebotomy and Besremi. 45.6 is the lowest it’s been in a LONG time so I am happy about that!
Summer cold?: I have been sick for a week. Mild... - MPN Voice
Summer cold?
Good trend on the HCT. As we've seen, it takes patience for Bes to work.
Your info does point to Covid Omicron. When did you get your test? What type of test did you get/do?
It could be worth having another test, PCR type, if you want to get more clear info.
I got a test from CVS pharmacy drive thru. I was shocked that it came back negative but I had a terrible case last year so I thought -maybe just a bad summer cold. Friend was diagnosed on Monday. I had the test on Tuesday. It was a nasal swab that I did myself. Maybe I will go to the doctor tomorrow.
Saturday to Tues is three days, from what I can find Omicron incubation is 3-5 days. Testing 5 days after exposure is advised. So that would be Thursday in this case, you have a good idea to get another test.
From May 2022 CDC:
cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nc...
<<Have you had close contact exposure to someone with COVID-19?
YES: Get tested at least 5 days after exposure.>>
But it is surprising if you had symptoms on Tuesday that it was negative.

A terrible case is good for immunity from what I've read. My hubby near died from it at the very start, so he could have good protection. But we both have long covid.
Unfortunately infection with older variants is not so helpful against infection with Omicron, esp after a few months. Same for the current vaxes which are designed for the original Wuhan strain. But infection and vax provides good protection from severe effects. I plan to get a booster if/when the recently reported new dual strain vaxes are available.
Sorry to hear you are under the weather. That does not make the potential Besremi dose any easier!. Hopefully it will be OK this time.
It sounds like this probably is a Summer cold; however given the timing, I would consider repeating the COVID test. You could opt for the at-home antigen test this time.
Hope you are feeling better soon.
Definitely worth testing again. This sounds very familiar! Lots of people symptomatic but negative despite regular testing. Then five or so days in - positive. Hope you recover very soon.
definitely test again.
You know folks, I don’t want to lecture anyone or sound cold hearted but we re going to have to live now with either various Omicrom s or superbugs or colds or flu - and get on with it.
I ve just had the foulest most disgusting bug in a long time. Throat like razor blades for a whole WEEK, ghastly cough that kept me awake all night ( dog and husband decamped) lost my voice for 5 days, absolutely knackered, excessive sweating - no cold though.
Throat now gone but cough hanging on into the second week - I ll prob have it for a month. It is what it is. Unless you think you have a strep throat then why bother the doctor? Nothing he can do. I tested Neg for covid by the way.
Let’s face it our immune systems are below par and we re going to keep getting things for a while. Probably a long while. Blooming irritating.
I look at the Ukrainians and count my blessings. C’est La vie. Could be worse. Yes, I know, I’m irritating. Louise xx
Thank you everyone. Worse today. 😷 I ended up in the hospital with Covid pneumonia in January 2021. That’s the only reason I’m going to the doctor today. I do realize there probably isn’t anything to be done but I do t know what else to do. I sure dont want to get out of this bed.
I tested negative while sneezing and with the sore throat but the day they were better I tested positive and it affected my lungs and heart. Amazing how quickly it changes so if you have symptoms beat to test again.
Probably best to have covid test again. If not too late might get antivirals. Anything that might prevent long covid could be helpful. Best to you.
