Shingles! Cause of my hip and leg pain?

Having had severe left hip and leg pain for nearly two weeks, I came out with a rash on the same leg and foot. As I also had a slightly elevated temperature, I was advised by my hematology team to go to A&E. I was there for several hours, treated by everyone with care and compassion and culminating in a diagnosis of shingles. Unfortunately, the hip X-ray carried out last week appears to have gone missing. I am now on Acyclovir for seven days. I can’t help wondering if the hip and leg pain is arthritis which has made me more susceptible to shingles or whether the pan is actually the shingles! I will need another X-ray obviously but need a couple of days off from doctors/hospitals! Feeling rather sorry for myself!

Hi, I am currently recovering from shingles and have finished the course of acyclovir. It’s on my face not body, but the pain has been really awful and did start about a week before the rash appeared and is still painful now (3 weeks in) but getting better.

I hope you feel better soon . The pain, whether it is from the shingles or my hip, is terrible

I don’t normally take painkillers but was doubling up (with pharmacy approval) with ibuprofen and paracetamol/codine with little effect. But it is much better now and I’m off all pain medication.Take care and hopefully you’ll be better soon

I’ve been told no ibuprofen while on aspirin and I would be wary of any more paracetamol but I’m on 120mg codeine and I don’t think that is anywhere near the upper limit. Hate the feel of it though but if it gets rid of the pain, even partially, it’s worth the yucky feeling I have all day. And where did my appetite go??

My wife and I feel for you, I had shingles in 1976 and still have flare ups on back of head. My wife got shingles last December and hasn't fully recovered from it yet.

Yikes! My painkillers don’t last long so I’m awake a lot of the night twisting and turning.

Oh sorry to hear you are in pain at the mo and hope they sort the x-ray out asap. Re shingles as its the nerve root that is affected you definitely can get a burning shooting pain with it. The aciclovir will hopefully reduce the chance of longer term symptoms but do rest up and don't overdo things at the mo. If you are struggling with the pain your GP can offer a neuropathic agent if its impacting your sleep with something like amitriptyline but hopefully you won't need that. Good luck.. Heidi (GP)

Sorry to hear about the shingles. Hope you have a speedy recovery.

How exactly did they lose images that are stored electronically? Did the hospital have a meltdown in the electronic health record?

Thank you! Goodness knows! I’m trying to get through to the department myself but my GP and the doctor in A&E could not 'find' it at all.

Taking care of the numbers of X'ray will be better for you PV. Better scans. If you have singles it is due to your immune system dosent work well. Take care
