Any Patients of Dr. Jason Gotlib?
Hi EPguy, I've had a consultation with Dr. Gotlib.
Thanks for the reply. Reason I ask is related to the post:
healthunlocked.com/mpnvoice...
He said here <<we know that patients with hydroxy resistance or intolerance have about a six-fold increased risk of death and a seven-fold increased risk of transformation to myelofibrosis>>
This is new info for many of us and seems possible only he has the source of that statement. If you are able, and comfortable asking him, could you inquire at your next visit?
If you're not comfortable doing so I understand well, and don't worry about it.
Thanks.
Thanks for this info.
I have ET with JAK2+. I'm currently on Pegasys 90mcg/week and baby Aspirin twice a day.
Would you be ok asking him a question on this info to help inform our members?
Dr. Gotlib is not my primary hematologist. I was referred to him to get a second opinion so I met him only once. However, I'll probably see Dr. Gotlib later this year, maybe in September and I'll ask him about this info if I get a chance.
Thanks. It's possible Members here could benefit from understanding his statement better since it is a strong claim.
The increase in death could be from poorly controlled blood counts if HU is not working and other therapies are not used, but the increase in progression is harder to figure, esp an increase of 7X. He may have valuable insight.
Did you get an answer? I see his partner, Dr Shomali. I can ask him. Does sound like a strong statement. I appreciate all your insights Marti
He is my primary, I will look more into this and ask him at my next appointment.
