I just by chance looked up Dr V today. Last time I saw him the way he told me he was “retiring” was odd. I had a suspicion that he was not really retiring. Maybe my intuition working in the medical field for 15 years. I have good news. He is now CEO of Kartos therapeutics. He is heading up drug research on MPNs. Prayers he finds solutions for all. Was so glad to see he is still working towards helping all of us. I do wish he was still seeing patients, but still glad he did fully retire.

The same thing happened to me!. My old MPN specialist, Dr. Braunstein, was snatched away by Incyte to be their medical director.. Dr. B is now working in the world of JAK2 inhibitors. Dr. V will now be working with MDM2 inhibitor research. Our loss is a gain for the larger MPN community.

Missing my old doc, but wishing them and the MPN community at large all the best.

I was so glad to see him show up somewhere. But still bummed he isn’t seeing patients! But I get it. Way less hassle and still can make a difference in the world. All of us who work in medicine have seen it change. It is more and more red tape and BS (excuse me). So getting paid likely millions (which he earned!). I get it! I will keep yours and mine in my prayers so we have options which is always good!

He went for the $$. Can’t blame him though.

Most doctors get paid better when they see patients than when they are involved in research, although they can do very well if drug research goes well such that the company stock which I'm sure they were given takes off. It is entirely likely they thought they could have a bigger overall impact by doing research than by seeing a limited number of individual patients.

Well, while I can't argue with your premise, in this case, it may not apply.

He became the Kartos Therapeutics CEO.

CEO's of 'Big Pharma" corps do not typically get paid scale like researchers do.

Best,

PA

Oops: Correction- he's the CMO- per their website, following the link Monarch so kindly posted.

Hi KLCTJC,

Thanks!

I work for the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, along with 40 other PA's statewide, but DOCCS didn't even acknowledge our existence during PA Week, much less celebrate or congratulate us on the hard work we [most of us anyway] do.

I think I'm going to have to find out who decides what 'events' get commemorated by DOCCS, and send them a nastygram on behalf of all of us DOCCS PA's.

Thanks for your kind words and constant support!

Best,

PA

That stinks! My company luckily is very PA friendly. They did recognize us and gave a little gifts with cards.

You definitely should send a nastygram! Happy PA week from all the PAs deep in the heart of Texas!
