Enlarged spleen

Enlarged spleen. Does any one heard about different effect of h.u and peg interferon on spleen?since I started to use peg my spleen got bigger from 15-16 to 18 cm

Pegasys should be acting as a cytoreductive agent and help control or reduce splenomegaly. Likewise with HU. The increase in spleen size would most likely be due to the MPN causing the overproduction of blood cells. In comparing HU to PEG, HU does tend to be faster acting. While PEG can take longer to reach target, it has greater efficacy in the long-term for many people.

I would definitely follow up with your care team with your concerns. It may be that a dose adjustment or alternative medication is in order.

Thank you for your response. My hematologist told me that H.U has better effect on splenomegaly and want me to use peg and H.U. If it should take time to reduce the size of the spleen I prefer the peg.

My husband spleen enlarged to 22cm when he was on hydroxy he's on ruxolitanib now and it's reduced in size to 14cm .

What is his diagnosis?

He had PV for 7 years hydrocxy was absolutely draining him so he had a bone marrow biopsy and it showed primary myleofibrosis so now he's post PV MF the ruxolitanib is working brilliant for him.
