I live in north west London and it would be at courts in south east London which are over an hour away on the tube.
I’ve not been on public transport for 18 months, apart from a few times. I don’t think I even went on the tube in rush hour pre pandemic so joining the back to work crew with the daily rise in cases and mask refuseniks doesn’t sound like a lot of fun.
I’m all up for doing my bit even though I’ve just had my 3rd jab I’m not sure travelling in rush hour for 2 weeks would be such a good idea.
Has anyone else been summoned and been able to decline as being CEV?
Are you allowed to have naps when the fatigue kicks in? I am on interferon every two weeks and usually get the flu aches 48 hours after each jab. I am actually due an injection on the start date.
I know we don’t need to shield anymore, though I don’t feel very confident about mixing with the public at the moment.

I think you would be entitled to medical exemption. On your summons there should be an option for this and they might want a doctor's note. I did jury service at Isleworth years ago, when I lived in West Drayton. I went on the bus but I wouldn't use crowded public transport now.
You definitely can't have naps due to fatigue as during a jury trial you have the responsibility of hearing all the evidence and then with the other jurors you have to discuss everything you've heard and decide on a defendants guilt or innocence. You can ask to be excused from jury duty on the grounds you have mentioned here. In the unlikely event they want you as on the day, their are quite a lot of people called upon for that one trial and only so many are called upon to actually go through the jury process. Tina.🤗
Thanks for your insightful knowledge, I was being a bit cheeky about the naps. I struggle every day if I don’t have a rest, also I haven’t commuted for about 20 years so even getting there and back I feel woukd wipe me out if the COVID doesn’t
My daughter was called for jury service last month, she didnt have to attend they let you know if you are needed she heard on the 2nd day she wouldnt be needed. I would let them know of your circumstances they may bear this in mind and not call you.
Hi there. You should definitely ask for an exemption (at the very least you’ll get a deferral). Simply explain your condition, the fact that you are considered immunosuppressed and are in the group that has been deemed eligible for a third primary vaccine (and therefore have been advised to avoid crowded indoor spaces including public transport), your condition makes you unpredictably fatigued and the medication produces flu like symptoms. Get a supporting doctor’s letter. Good luck.
I have been summoned twice and managed to get out of it both times (caring for my sick elderly relatives single handed at the time and could not leave them ) . Explain that you are still classified as CEV and what that means. that means. Have had the 3rd Primary (explain why) and that current advice is to avoid gatherings of people you don’t know. Check the latest Gov. advice to us which you will find online and reference that in your appeal. That’s what I would have done if I was not now too old to be called again. Best of luck !!
Shouldn’t be any problem with being exempted from jury service. I was called up immediately pre pandemic and explained about fatigue and impaired immune system. No probs. BTW the system is now a national one.
My husband was asked the year before COVID started. He replied and explained he had PMP. Explained how his condition was and he was then informed due to his condition he would be taken off the list. Just explain why and which hospital you are under. Hope this help.
I had my letter and listed my health problems, the brain fog, the chronic fatigue, the brain fog, the high risk of blood clots from sitting for long periods, the need to drink a lot of fluids and have frequent comfort breaks, also the microvascular angina made worse by anything stressful or upsetting.
I pointed out that I had been retired on health grounds as medically unfit for any employment.
Somehow, when I phoned in daily, I was not needed.
I have asked to be excused so waiting to hear what happens next. If they do ask for more info I can add all of your info above as their wasn’t a lot of space to explain about brain fog, comfort breaks. I also have high blood pressure, so yes I hadn’t even considered the stress side of it.
I had a letter for jury service prior to Covid and I was marked as medically exempt after asking my Doctor. They replied saying I wouldn't be called again.
That is good to know, though my GP as many on here don’t seem to think MPN is a blood cancer so it’s always a struggle to get them to do anything without a lot of chasing. I think our practice has even stopped doing private letters. Though I am back in hospital this month so would expect it would be easier to get a letter form haematology instead. I’ve asked to be excused, so waiting to hear if approved.
I didn't feel medically unable but with having to drink 2 ltrs of water daily I was more concerned about not being able to get to the toilet when I needed to! 🤣
I swear they get their priorities wrong, just picking a name out a hat? I have been declared as vulnerably disabled since 2013, I was 64 at the time, never been able to drive, no transport whatsoever, yet they pick me? I had to write a long and laborious letter to explain my predicament! They did it again about two months later, a short letter, at last some sort of apology, both times jury service to Londonderry, I live in Lisburn, eight miles south of Belfast, they did not even mention of travel expenses?
A good friend of mine, a taxi driver, was going to miss his daughter's wedding because of the jury dates, he squirmed his way out of it!
