As I have been searching ages and cannot find the answer, I wonder if someone can help. I have a friend suffering badly with mouth ulcers and cannot find the name of the "magic mouthwash" people have referred to for this. Can anyone please let me know what it is/called in order to try and help her. Thank you.

mouth ulcers
I’m not sure which one you have been reading about, but I use : Orajel for mouth sores (that’s over the counter.)
I use Benzydamine it’s over the counter too although the nurse gave me it on Perscriptions Hope it helps thanks Diana
Try swishing 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon baking soda in 8 oz water four times a day.
You will need a pharmacy to make it up with a doctor’s prescription as it includes : Benadryl, Maalox and 2% Viscous lidocaine. That is what we in the USA call “Magic Mouthwash”. It is a swish and spit mixture. Rinsing the mouth several times a day also helps using “normal saline” or salt water. Do not use regular mouthwash as it contains too much alcohol that dries out mucous membranes. Good luck! (I am a retired Certified Heme/Oncology nurse and also retired Certified Palliative care nurse)
Thank you so very much. I will pass this information to my friend together with the saline recommendations.
Try and get your friend to have their vitamin B12 blood serum checked by their consultant or nurse. It could be a vitamin B12 deficiency that is the root cause of the mouth ulcers, depending on what other drugs your friend is on, can make a big difference to how well they absorb B12, and whether they have had any surgery.
My hematologist said do not use over the counter mouth wash as they’re too caustic but use baking soda rinse two-three times a day. Once they’re gone I use it nightly. I keep a glass and bag of soda by the sink and mix a little to swish. I find this very effective. And it helps clean the stains off teeth as well! Extra bonus.
I believe the ulcers come from the HU. Is that what you’re taking. HU is not even supposed to be touched by our hands. When taken by mouth, put on the tongue quickly and drink it down with lots of water. The quicker the better that it doesn’t do damage to the membranes of your mouth or esophagus. I’d take the salt water solution and leave out other chemical solutions.
You could also add Soda to the water to help clean the mouth better. Natural Solution will help keep the natural biofilm in the mouth cavity, which we need to stay healthier. 😁
Hi Anag. I take Hydroxy now just over two months and very thankfully have not suffered with mouth ulcers myself so far. My enquiry is for a friend of mine on chemo who has suffered with mouth ulcers continually through her treatment and has not been able to find anything that helped them. Thank you for your reply.
Hi Oskarboy.
Yes of course. I believe in getting down to the root cause and treating except only the symptoms. There are many causes including meds. I have many symptoms because of Anagrelide and am taking all kinds of supplements to counteract them. She’s have to find what her meds are doing exactly. What is causing the cankers. It could be that the meds are causing vitamin or mineral/metal depletion. Of other reasons.

I used to get cankers often and eczema in my face. Cleaning up my diet (auto immune paleo and no packaged or prepared food), all went away, even my fatty liver, depressions, nasal infections, no more colds, reduced 1/2 of my thyroid meds. It’s a hard switch but it’s worth it!
Crackers are so painful. Even talking or yawning is painful. I hope you can help your friend. 👍 Anag.
Oscarsboy, the solution I gave you resolved my wife's mouth ulcers, numerous large blood blisters and an inflamed throat resulting from four 500 mg HU taken four times a day for almost a week to reduce wbc from 100k to under 2 k to allow a different chemo to begin. By the way, all the preparations used by the hospital didn't resolve the oral problem, that solution did in two days.
